SEARCH ENDS WITH DEVASTATING DISCOVERY – POLICE BELIEVE HUMAN REM-AINS FOUND IN BUSHLAND ARE MISSING MUM JANA ARMSTRONG

Human remains believed to be those of missing Queensland mother Jana Armstrong have been found in bushland, roughly an hour from Toowoomba.

The grim discovery at Redbank Creek comes just days after the 30-year-old vanished, sparking a major police search across the Darling Downs.

Queensland Police were called to bushland off Esk Hampton Rd about 10.39pm on Saturday, where the remains were located and a crime scene declared.

While formal identification is yet to be completed, investigators believe the remains are those of the 30-year-old, who was reported missing after she was last seen at her Newtown home on July 7.

A 48-year-old Harristown man has been charged with one count of murder (domestic violence offence) and is due to face Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday.

The man was arrested after Darling Downs detectives executed a search warrant at a West Street property in Harristown.

Police said they are in contact with Armstrong’s family as forensic examinations continue.

The discovery brings a heartbreaking end to a desperate search that gripped Queensland.

Jana worked as a disability support worker and had spent years caring for her elderly parents before welcoming her first child earlier this year.

Her disappearance immediately raised alarm bells with both police and loved ones, who described it as completely out of character.

Jana’s white Hyundai Kona was found abandoned and unlocked near her Newtown home, while her four-month-old son was left safe in the care of relatives.

Police later described the circumstances surrounding her disappearance as “very alarming”.

As the search intensified, Jana’s family made emotional public appeals for information, insisting she would never have willingly left her baby behind.

“There’s no way she would do that. She wouldn’t leave her son,” her sister Faith Isaacs told 7NEWS.

Police said investigations remain ongoing and are continuing to appeal for CCTV and dashcam footage from the route between Toowoomba and Redbank Creek, particularly along Esk Hampton Road and the New England Highway between 10.30pm on July 7 and 1.30am on July 8.

More to come.
