Netflix had a hit on its hands back in 2024 when it aired German dark comedy series Murder Mindfully, and the show has now returned following a one-year break.
When it was first released Murder Mindfully was in the Global Top 10 for three weeks, while also being the highest-rated non-English language shows following its release.
The German-language programme follows Björn Diemel, a hard-working lawyer who is indebted to mafia boss Dragan Sergowicz. Unable to balance his professional and personal life, Björn sees a Mindfulness coach, although he heads in an unexpected direction. For fans of the CBS hit Dexter, which followed a serial killer whose honour code compelled him to only murder killers, this is a must-watch.
The synopsis for the second season teases: “Björn Diemel seemingly has his life under control: he has internalised the principles of mindfulness, quit his stressful job as a criminal defence lawyer and gone self-employed. He spends more time with his daughter Emily, argues more mindfully with his wife Katharina, but has, on the other hand, expanded his career with an unusual responsibility.
“As legal representative of two mafia clans whose bosses he has mindfully made disappear from the scene, he must now take care of their affairs without revealing what really happened to the heads of the families. The only exception, and also the only person in on the secret, is a mafioso with a degree in educational sciences: Sascha.
“He also runs the kindergarten above which Björn now has his office and apartment. Sascha has likewise moved into the house, which makes Björn’s secret all the more secure. Yet despite this bizarrely harmonious balance, Björn is plagued by inner unrest and a loss of control. Why can he not enjoy any of this?”
It concludes: “His mindfulness coach Joschka Breitner identifies the reason: Björn’s inner child. Unresolved conflicts from his childhood weigh on him more than he realised. While Björn tries to heal these wounds and make peace with his past, he must at the same time deal with the usual challenges of life – and ultimately discovers that his inner work not only brings emotional clarity, but also has practical consequences for his darker activities.”
What have fans made of Murder Mindfully’s return?
Fans have been raving about the show as it returned, as one named it among their favourite shows: “Didn’t really watch many but Breaking Bad, Dexter and uh idk I recently watched Murder Mindfully and it was kind of a vibe,” they said.

Fans have been loving the show’s return
A second posted: “Boris in Murder Mindfully is my best character in the whole series. That Russian accent is killing me,” while a third commented: “Season two of Murder Mindfully is out on Netflix today. If you’ve not yet seen this brilliant series, do so, you won’t be disappointed. It’s a brilliant black comedy.”
Writing for Leisure Byte, Archi Sengupta penned: “Murder Mindfully Season 2 also continues to be unpredictable, especially sometimes when it tries to balance satire, thriller and emotions all at once. These moments do become messy, but it works for this season quite well.”
Who stars in Murder Mindfully?
Murder Mindfully has Tom Schilling (Never Look Away), Emily Cox (The Last Kingdom) and Peter Jordan (Soul Kitchen) return as main character Björn, his wife Katharina and mindfulness coach Joschka, respectively.
