As the sun is setting earlier now that summer is drawing to a close, and with rain finally forecast this week after what feels like an eternity of heatwaves, it’s the perfect time to curl up and put a film on. If you’re on the hunt for your next watch, then Netflix has just the thing for you.
‘Don’t Say Good Luck’ is a dramedy with a stellar cast, including Adam Sandler’s daughter Sunny, New Girl’s Max Greenfield, Brooklyn 99’s Stephanie Beatriz and old school legends Steve Buscemi and Job Lovits.
Melanie Lynskey rounds out the cast, taking a break from her role as sinister plane crash survivor Shauna in Yellowjackets.
The film centres on Sophia Birenbaum (played by Sunny Sandler) who is leading her high school’s musical production when suddenly she is dealing with “even more drama at home than on the stage” according to the film’s Netflix bio.

The film has scored an impressive 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes with reviews saying it’s a “sweet and heartfelt” film.
One person wrote: “Don’t Say Good Luck is an easy movie to like. “The story is sweet and heartfelt and has that coming-of-age feeling that I always enjoy.“
Another said: “I cannot believe how emotionally cathartic this movie was. My wife even said ‘I can’t remember the last time I cried during a movie’.
“Maybe we don’t watch too many sad movies, but the way it brought up my own losses, life itself, the future, our own eventual and inevitable last breath. I can still tear up thinking about it!”
