What once seemed like a fantasy has now become a dream that could actually come true. NBA fans who have longed to see LeBron James playing alongside Stephen Curry just received a major update from highly reliable sources.
After seeing how well they worked together to help Team USA win the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, LeBron didn’t shut the door on the possibility of teaming up with Curry in the NBA, saying he had “no idea” if it would happen — but he wasn’t ruling it out.
LeBron James decided to exercise his player option to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers for one more season in exchange for $52.6 million, and it seemed his presence was locked in through the 2025–26 NBA season — but then came a twist.
“LeBron wants to compete for a championship. He understands the Lakers are building for the future. He respects that, but he values a real opportunity to win it all. We’ve had a great partnership over eight years with Jeanie Buss (team president) and Rob Pelinka (GM), and we see the Lakers as a key part of his career. But we also recognize how difficult it is to win now while planning for the future,” said Rich Paul, LeBron’s agent.
“We want to evaluate what’s truly best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He wants to make the most of every season he has left, and the Lakers understand that, support him, and want what’s best for him.”
And just as those words were making headlines, the Golden State Warriors were reportedly on the verge of making a major decision.

In an article published by Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst on ESPN’s English-language site, the journalists reported that “multiple teams — including the Golden State Warriors, who tried to sign James in 2023–24 — have once again begun considering the possibility of making an offer, according to sources.”
This is great news for Jimmy Butler and Stephen Curry, as the possibility of The King joining the Dubs is starting to feel more real.
What LeBron James last said about his situation with the Los Angeles Lakers
After reporter Zach Lowe stated that LeBron James wants to leave the Los Angeles Lakers, The King refused to comment on the current state of the team.
Speaking to Dave McMenamin of ESPN before the NBA 2025 Summer League game against the New Orleans Pelicans, LeBron said he had “nothing to talk about.”
