The search for a man who went missing in the ocean near Sydney’s eastern suburbs has resumed, with crews taking to the water and sky.

Emergency services were called to Little Bay about 11am on Monday after a man was spotted “struggling in the water” about 100m offshore.

Police from the Eastern Beaches and Marine Area Command, a Westpac Rescue helicopter crew, NSW Marine Rescue teams and Surf Life Saving NSW volunteers are searching for the man, believed to be in his 30s.

The search was called off just after 4.40pm on Monday and resumed at 8am on Tuesday.

Police have urged any members of the public who know anything about the incident to call Crime Stoppers.

Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Joel Pemberton said two volunteer crews were assembled and sent out on the Botany Hacking 30 and Middle Harbour 30 about 12.30pm on Monday.

“Both Marine Rescue NSW vessels are working alongside Water Police, searching an area from Little Bay Beach to Cape Banks in the south,” Inspector Pemberton said.

“Sea conditions offshore are unfavourable, with a 3-5m southeast rolling swell.

“Marine Rescue NSW volunteers and vessels will continue searching until instructed otherwise by Marine Area Command.”
