A major search effort is unfolding after an elderly couple vanished from a busy shopping centre, with police fearing they may be disoriented and without vital medication.
Police are urgently searching for an elderly couple from Wheelers Hill, about 23km southeast of the Melbourne CBD, who vanished after leaving a shopping centre on Saturday.
Colin, 89, and Claudette, 83, were last seen driving out of The Glen Shopping Centre on Springvale Rd about midday.
They left in their white 2015 Mazda 2 — registration 1ER8FK — and haven’t been seen since.
The pair left their aged care facility on Ferntree Gully Rd about 11.15am and never returned.
Family and police hold serious concerns for their welfare, with both needing daily medication and likely to become confused or disoriented.
Investigators believe the Mazda may have been spotted travelling westbound on the Monash Freeway about 5.30pm on Saturday.
Colin is 172cm tall, thin, balding with grey hair and wears glasses. He was last seen in a dark long‑sleeve top, pants and white shoes.
Claudette is 142cm tall with a solid build, short grey hair and uses a wheelchair. She was wearing a hot‑pink zip‑up jacket, floral shirt, dark pants and carrying a handbag.
