Fans of crime dramas and detective shows are being urged to watch an award-winning limited series hailed a “masterpiece”.
The Netflix drama, which originally premiered in 2018, is based on a Russian film titled The Major.
The gripping crime drama, which is one of many crime dramas on Netflix, follows the aftermath of a hit-and-run in Jersey City, where a white narcotics detective accidentally hits a Black teenager with his car.
Instead of calling for help, a team of corrupt officers orchestrate a cover-up, sparking racial tensions and a relentless pursuit of justice at the hands of the teenager’s family.
Seven Seconds is the series in question, and it stars Regina King as Latrice Butler, the mother of teenager Brenton Butler, and Russell Hornsby as Brenton’s father Isaiah.

Fans have taken to IMDb reviews to share their thoughts on the series, with one saying: “Best series I’ve ever seen.
“I recommend this to everyone and they usually end up binge-watching it as I did. Although I would love to see more seasons, I’m afraid it might turn this realistic series into a fairytale.
“It’s soooo good and I just happened to come across it on Netflix. It definitely did not get the accolades and exposure it deserves.”
Another viewer called it “phenomenal”, adding: “A masterpiece that must be watched. Seven Seconds will grip you, shake you around and spit you out.
“The cast are amazing and for me the standout being Michael Mosley as Fish.”

A third fan added: “Should be seen by everyone. One of the best dramas on Netflix. Performances were terrific with a relevant subject matter.”
A final viewer called it a “top-notch drama”, adding: “This is an enthralling drama. It is a very dark subject that calls for acting of a high calibre.
“There is not one bad performance here, and this story grips you from start to finish.”
Many fans begged for a second season, but in April 2018, Netflix confirmed it would be a limited series.
While the crime drama is not based on a single true story, it was inspired by real-world events and creator Veena Sud was aware of the real-life issues, such as power struggles surrounding police violence, systemic racism and the Black Lives Matter movement.
