Sexyy Red has spoken to NME about her ‘Sexyy Red 4 President’ mixtape, and how she plans to make music sexy again.
Earlier this month, Red surprised fans during Don Toliver‘s set on the closing day of Wireless festival, performing some of her viral songs after she had to cancel her set the day prior due to travel issues. The St. Louis rapper later told BBC Newsbeat that she experienced some “racist shit” at the airport and “was on time” for her flight.
Back in May, she dropped her third mixtape ‘Sexyy Red 4 President’, which featured the likes of Drake, Lil Baby, and more. “It was fun,” Red told NME about making the record. “I think I should be the President in real life”.
When put on the spot to share some ideas for a potential manifesto, Red said that she is “for the people, for real,” adding: “Just know, I fight for you”.
The first thing she would do in office is “freeing all the real n****as”, including her “baby daddy”. She would also have her own national holiday called “Sexyy Day”.

The ‘Get It Sexyy’ star has been using the slogan “Make America Sexyy Again” throughout her recent promotional run. In most of her festival performances this year, Red has an inflatable cap with the slogan on it on stage behind her, similar to the infamous red hats Donald Trump wore and had as merch during his Presidential campaign run back in 2016.
Many called out the 26-year-old, saying she was “endorsing” the controversial politics of the 45th President with her parody campaign. Red denied these claims, tweeting: “I’m not endorsing anybody, period.”
Backstage at Wireless, the media were warned by her security to refrain from asking about Trump and politics in general, as well as Drake or his beef with Kendrick Lamar. This notice came after one outlet attempted to ask Red about Trump days after someone attempted to assassinate the latter at a Philadelphia rally.
When NME asked Red what she meant by making music “Sexyy again”, she replied: “It’s all about confidence – go shake that ass, get your hair done, get your nails done and get some money”.
One group she has always sought to spotlight is mothers. When NME last spoke to Red, she explained the reasoning behind her and Summer Walker flaunting their respective toddler and baby bump in the music video for their 2022 collaboration ‘Sense Dat God Gave You’. She said she wanted to show that “mothers can be sexy,” adding, “Nowadays, girls can get pregnant and still be reckless.”
Red then gave birth to her second child, a daughter, back in February – still refusing to let motherhood be an obstacle to stardom.
“I ain’t gonna lie: when you have a kid, it could throw your confidence off like you looking different and stuff,” she told NME. “But you got to still turn up – you got to still take care of them kids and still get to keep yourself up to par.”
Quizzed on what the future holds,Red said she is already working on new music – confirming that he “just got shit in the chamber” about how she feels.
The self-proclaimed Ghetto Princess is nearing the end of her worldwide festival tour. The rapper is set to perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago this weekend (August 1).
She will then embark on her own 23-date kicking off in Seattle, Washington on August 22 before visiting other cities such as New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. The ‘Sexyy Red 4 President Tour’ will conclude in Nashville, Tennessee on October 1. Visit here for any available tickets.
Recently, the ‘Hellcat SRTs’ star had tosquash rumours about her potentially cancelling the tour due to low ticket sales. She even theorised that the “bigger companies” were trying to get back at Red for choosing Black promoters AEG Entertainment over them.
