“HE’S STILL HERE…” — Police Reveal Chi:lling New Detail as WA Manhu-nt Near Mullewa Intensifies

Police have made a “personal plea” to an alleged fugitive to hand himself in after a woman was shot and injured at a large outback property.

Significant resources including heavily armed officers have been thrown at the search for 58-year-old Kenneth John Giles about 450km north of Perth after the alarm was raised late on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite having planes in the air and patrols on the ground, there have been no signs of Giles or the Nissan Patrol ute he is believed to be travelling in.

“This is a personal plea to Kenneth John Giles to please hand himself into police,” Superintendent Neil Vanderplank said on Thursday.

Police were called to the property on Urawa Rd near Mullewa about 5.30pm following reports a person had been shot during an altercation involving people known to each other.

The injured woman was flown to Perth for treatment on her hand and police are yet to speak with her officially.

Vanderplank said there were at least four other people, including children, at the property at the time but police are working off limited information about which direction he left in.

Police said there is nothing to suggest he has left the area.

7NEWS reports that many of the calls to police from the public have talked up Giles’ experience as a bushman, and someone who knows the area well.

“As you can probably appreciate out in the bush there’s a lot of places to sneak out and a lot of shacks and disused mines and things like that so we’ll be conducting a very thorough search of the area,” Vanderplank said.

It is unclear how many firearms Giles may be carrying.

He is described as 173cm tall with a medium build, brown hair and brown eyes.

Police do not believe there is a risk to the public but said he should not be approached.

“Just give (police) a ring. We just want to get him safely into our custody and we can deal with what we need to deal with,” Vanderplank said.
