He died at the scene a short time later.

Police are appealing for the driver of the vehicle to come forward.

“I do appeal for the driver or occupants of a white Toyota Landcruiser and a dark utility who were both seen in the area at the time of the accident,” Queensland Police Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said.

Authorities said there was a group of people at the scene when the accident occurred, potentially involved in a hooning event.

They said members of the group were performing CPR on the man before paramedics arrived.

Officers are working to determine if the 20-year-old had been hit by a hooning car driven by one of his friends or if he was struck by a passing car unrelated to the event.

One witness told 9News the death was “really shocking and heartbreaking”.

“The fact that we couldn’t do anything either, it’s really shocking,” she said.

Another man told 9News he found the scene confronting.

“It just wasn’t nice to see, you know, it’s just really disgusting, actually,” he said.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam, mobile phone footage or CCTV to come forward.
