A fitness enthusiast is being remembered for his gentle nature and ‘infectious smile’ after he died from a severe brain injury.

Trent Rutherford, who is believed to be in his late 20s, died on June 4.

He spent over a week fighting for life, with his heartbroken mum describing him as being ‘surrounded by love’ in his final moments.

The Daily Mail understands Mr Rutherford – a carpenter by trade – had been living in Uluwatu in Bali’s southwest with his long-term partner Bella Cignetti.

He suffered the brain injury in Australia.

The couple, both from Maroubra in Sydney’s east, are believed to have moved to Bali in 2024 to set up multiple fitness-related businesses.

In an emotional tribute, Ms Cignetti said Mr Rutherford had brought ‘so much love, laughter and happiness into the lives of everyone lucky enough’ to know him.

‘I’d choose you in every single lifetime, my love. You fought harder than anyone I’ve ever known,’ she wrote.

‘You are my soulmate, my greatest love, and now my angel, watching over me, protecting me, guiding me and so many others.’

Ms Cignetti said she was ‘endlessly grateful’ for every ‘adventure, laugh, moment (and) dream’ the pair had shared.

‘Thank you for choosing me, for loving me the way you did and for giving me the most beautiful memories and life. Until we meet again, my love. Forever and always I’ll love you with my whole heart,’ she added.

Tributes to Mr Rutherford flooded social media with many describing him as a ‘special human’ who had a ‘heart of gold.’

The South Sydney Rabbitohs captain Cameron Murray also paid his respects, wearing wrist tape emblazoned with ‘TRENT’ during Thursday night’s clash against Manly Sea Eagles.

A GoFundMe has now been launched to help Mr Rutherford’s family cover his funeral expenses and any ongoing costs.

‘This has been an incredibly difficult time for his family, partner Bella, and everyone who loved him,’ friend and organiser Sam Owens said.

‘This fundraiser will continue to support Bella and Trent’s family as they navigate the unimaginable loss of a beloved partner, son, brother, and friend.’
