Emily In Paris Needs To End With Season 4: And Netflix Just Proved It

Netflix has just proven why it’s for the best that Emily in Paris season 4 will be the final chapter in Emily Cooper’s story. Emily in Paris premiered on Netflix in 2020, following marketing fashionista Emily Cooper as her job relocates her to Paris, France where she has to balance her job and messy love life over three seasons. With a new installment in the works, Emily in Paris has a chance to bow out at the right time and wrap up the story.

Netflix’s Emily in Paris was one of its most popular shows, despite its mixed critical response. Viewers also agreed that the low-maintenance rom-com series was not good, but they were still compelled to watch it, prompting Netflix to give it more seasons. There are no official plans for season 5. However, after three seasons filled with drama, flashy outfits, and several love triangles, the upcoming Emily in Paris season 4 is the best place to wrap up the story.

The title heroine of Emily in Paris fully experiences the City of Love, with several romantic encounters. Some are sweet, others are complicated.

Emily In Paris Season 3 Was Already Running Out Of Stories

There is not much left for Emily in Paris

The show’s first two seasons had a lot to offer in terms of the drama and romantic storylines it provided for Emily and the rest of the Emily in Paris cast. But by season 3, there was an impression that it had already run out of original stories to tell with Emily’s character. In spite of the absurdity of the romantic plots featured in the show, its flashy outfits, approach to the drama, and the impossible love story between Emily and Gabriel managed to keep its fanbase engaged with the characters and their problems. However, throughout its three seasons, Emily in Paris recycled the same tropes and storylines without seeming to learn anything from its criticism.

Emily found herself in a good place in her career, which was the whole reason why she was in Paris. In season 3, she became more confident and sure of herself and her work, amid the cliffhanger of season 2’s difficult career choice. However, Emily in Paris‘ season 3 ending shook up everything in her life as it stopped her from being with Gabriel, a storyline dating back from season 1. Emily in Paris hinting at a Roman holiday further underscores the notion that the show has run out of stories in the City of Lights and apparently now needs a new setting. Because of that, season 4 is the best place to end the show for good.

Emily In Paris Doesn’t Bring Strong Numbers (Compared To Netflix’s Other Canceled Shows)

Ending it with season 4 would avoid a cancelation

Netflix has recently released its engagement report, proving that Emily in Paris doesn’t produce strong numbers. The report, called What We Watched, showed that season 3 was watched for 161.1 million hours (via Netflix). In total, the three seasons were watched for 262.7 million hours, and while that might sound good, the numbers were significantly worse than Netflix’s canceled show Shadow and Bone, which had a total of 292.4 million hours over two seasons, not to mention solid reviews supporting it. With that in mind, it’s difficult to justify Netflix maintaining its interest in keeping Emily in Paris in its lineup beyond an additional season.
