The daughter of Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann said the convicted murderer told her he didn’t see his victims as human.

“He said that his demons got to him,” Victoria Heuermann said in the final episode of The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets on Peacock. “When he was in a certain opportunity or there was a certain catalyst in front of him that would start to create these dark urges. It was a sickness. I’m like, well, did you see them as somebody’s daughter? He told me he didn’t even see them as human.”

In the episode, which aired on Thursday, April 23, Victoria said she got a call 26 months after his July 2023 arrest that he wanted to sit face to face with her and admit to his crimes.

At the sit down the former architect and father of two confessed to killing eight women.

Victoria said she asked him if he thought of her at the time of the murders.

“He said he doesn’t think about the family,” she said. “He never thought about me when he was doing it. They were completely kept separate, and he never let the two cross. So, I’m like, okay, he’s a loving dad and a serial killer. How did he manage that the two never crossed? Seven women have been murdered in this house. It’s hard to stomach.”

On April 8, Heuermann admitted in court that he killed Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Amber Costello, Jessica Taylor, Valerie Mack, Sandra Costilla and Karen Vergata.

The remains of his victims were discovered between 1993 and 2011. The murders remained unsolved for another decade until he was finally arrested in 2023 near his office in Manhattan.

Heuermann told Victoria he killed Costilla in the family Dodge and the 1993 murder wasn’t planned. The remaining victims were killed in the family’s Massapequa Park, N.Y. home, including in his childhood bedroom in the basement.

“He said Karen, Valerie, and Jessica were murdered and mutilated and dismembered in that room [the basement]. And my dad has confirmed that one of them was killed in their bed,” said Victoria.

“I remember as a kid I would watch TV, play video games in that [basement] area, and that is about maybe 10 feet from where those women were mutilated or murdered,” she said. “That image was in my head of just, I was watching TV right where he did all these things.”

Victoria said Heuermann took two pictures of the victims during his spree. “He only took two pictures, but nobody’s seen these pictures. He destroyed them promptly afterwards. They were long destroyed.”

During the police investigation, authorities discovered Heuermann was obsessed with the case and searched for articles about a task force that was formed to investigate the murders and used an online account to repeatedly view images of his victims and their families.

“I do accept his guilt and the crimes that he has done,” she said.
