The driver, 18, and another passenger, 17, are fighting for life.
Liberatore died in hospital surrounded by his family.
His grandmother Mary Liberatore told The Age they were “just all in shock.”
“It’s just unfathomable that he was so young, handsome, and smart, talented, and footy and sports, and just to have his life snuffed, [it’s] just not fair. He was the most beautiful boy in the world,” she said.
The family said he had just celebrated his 18th birthday this month.
“Everyone loved him, and he always wanted people to laugh,” his mother Simonetta told The Age.
“He was so charismatic, he would light up a room.”
The drivers of the other two vehicles, a man in his 50s and a man in his 20s, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
