A man accused of driving away after hitting a child with his ute has turned himself in to police.

NSW Police confirmed officers spoke to a 50-year-old man who self-presented to Bankstown Police Station, in Sydney‘s west, about 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Investigators launched a public appeal to find the driver of a gold Nissan Navara ute involved in the collision earlier this week.

CCTV footage showed a 12-year-old boy talking with three friends before stepping onto the westbound lanes of Milperra Road, Revesby, between Edgar Street and Mons Road about 3.20pm on Monday.

The boy was clipped by the rear passenger side of the ute. Officers believed the driver may not have known the boy was struck.

The 12-year-old fell to the ground and the driver did not stop.

Paramedics rushed the boy to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

NSW Police alleged the 50-year-old man was the driver.
