Network primetime TV is booming, with NBC, CBS, and ABC all running hugely successful franchises across multiple nights, from 911 to FBI and One Chicago.

The May upfronts, however, see executives make their final decisions over which TV shows will return for brand new seasons in fall 2026 or spring 2027, and we’ve already had several disappointing confirmations of cancellations.

CBS has made its final decisions, and below is an easy-to-view list of what is returning and what has been cancelled. Comment with your reactions – which were you surprised to see on the list?

Boston Blue – Officially renewed

Donnie Wahlberg was the most vocal of the Blue Bloods cast after CBS canceled the beloved show in 2024, so it was no surprise he was willing to take the lead in the spin-off series Boston Blue.

The show saw his NYPD detective Danny Reagan take a position with the Boston Police Department and is paired with detective Lena Silver, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family in the city.

Boston Blue was the number one new show on the network for the 2025-26 season.

CIA – Officially renewed

A spin-off from the FBI television franchise created by Dick Wolf, CIA premiered in February 2026 and a month later received renewal for a second season.

The whipsmart drama centers on two unlikely partners: a fast-talking, rule-breaking loose cannon CIA case officer played Tom Ellis (Lucifer) and a by-the-book, seasoned and smart FBI agent played by Nick Gehlfuss (Chicago Med) who believes in the rule of law.

It has received middling same-day ratings but has thrived on streaming and has become a solid performer for CBS.

DMV – Officially canceled

DMV was a half-hour sitcom that followed the workers at the East Hollywood DMV. It premiered in October 2025, and on Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds an approval rating of 65% with many reviews praising the potential to come.

However, ratings stayed low, and in March 2026 it was canceled after one season. The series finale airs on May 11, 2026.

Elsbeth – Officially renewed

Elsbeth has been a critical smash for CBS, so it’s no surprise it has been renewed for a fourth season. Rather than a “whodunnit”, the show uses a “howcatchem” format, taking viewers along as Elsbeth Tascioni, an unconventional attorney who has ended up working as a de facto detective with the NYPD, discovers how and why the killer committed the crime.

FBI – Officially renewed

FBI has been running for eight years with no signs of the CBS drama slowing down.

Following the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the procedural has built a loyal fanbase and has consistently been one of the most popular shows on the network.

It has been renewed for a ninth season.

Fire Country, and Sheriff Country – Officially renewed

Fire Country was a hit immediately when it premiered in 2022, following Max Theriot as Bode Donovan, a young convict who joins an unconventional prison release firefighting program in Northern California, where he and other inmates are partnered with elite firefighters to extinguish massive, unpredictable wildfires.

Now in its fourth season, the series will return for a fifth season as it continues to dominate the Friday night lineup.

Also returning? Sheriff Country, the show’s first spin-off which has been a success for CBS as it continues to expand its various franchises.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage – Officially renewed

The second spin-off from The Big Bang Theory, the sitcom will be going into its third season after a renewal from CBS.

Ghosts – Officially renewed

Ghosts, based on a British show, has been a sleeper hit for CBS which has renewed it for sixth season.

Despite love from the critics and viewers for years, Ghosts keeps getting snubbed for Emmys – but will season five finally see it break through?

Marshals – Officially renewed

Surprising no-one, Marshals – the Yellowstone spinoff that continues the story of Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton – has been the most-watched new show of the season after its March 1, 2026 premiere drew 9.52 million viewers.

Because of its success, CBS will premiere season two in fall 2026, months after the first season concludes.

Matlock -Officially renewed

It’s rare to see network shows crossover to awards success these days, but Matlock has managed the impossible, with Kathy Bates and Skye P Marshall both regularly in the Emmys conversation.

The show will return for a third season, however, instead of fall, it will debut in the midseason with only 13 episodes, down from 16 in season two.

NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and NCIS: Sydney – Officially renewed

The NCIS franchise is CBS’s bread and butter, a long-running franchise that continues to bring in new viewers. NCIS holds the spot as one of the top five most-watched television series during the 2025–2026 season, maintaining strong figures after 23 seasons.

Origins, which premiered in 2023, expanded the universe with a distinct focus on the early years of Leroy Gibbs’ career and has a solid Rotten Tomatoes score of 88%, and gains strong delayed viewing figures. It will receive 10 episodes for season three.

NCIS: Sydney has become an international hit for the network and continues to bring in decent viewing figures in the US. Season four will debut in the midseason in 2027 and will reportedly have 10 episodes.

Tracker – Officially renewed

Justin Hartley’s Tracker is another underrated procedural. Following Colter Shaw, a trusted lone-wolf survivalist who, driven by the troubles of his past, uses his instincts to find the missing and collect rewards, the series is concluding its third season and will return for a fourth.

The Neighborhood – Officially canceled

After eight years, The Neighborhood continues to bring in viewers – an average of four million an episode — but rising production and salary costs meant CBS decided to end the comedy in 2026.

The series finale airs May 11, 2026.

Watson – Officially canceled

CBS had high hopes for Watson, a procedural set months after the death of the titular character’s friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty. Dr. John Watson resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders – but his old life isn’t done with him yet.

Sadly, ratings remained low, and it was canceled after two seasons.

The series finale aired May 3, 2026.
