A man and woman have died after their high-powered Lamborghini lost control on a Queensland highway in what has been described as a tragic weekend on the state’s roads.

The fatal crash occurred at 5.40pm on Sunday on the Mount Lindsay Hwy near Beaudesert in the Scenic Rim region.

Police say a 45-year-old woman and 44-year-old man were travelling in a yellow Lamborghini Gallardo when the driver lost control of the luxury sports car.

Both occupants died at the scene.

Witnesses have told police the vehicle was speeding prior to the crash, which has now become a major focus of the investigation.
