The Arizona sheriff leading the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie told a reporter that his department was closer to solving the case.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos spoke to a FOX News reporter in the parking lot of the department on Friday, May 8.
The reporter asked Nanos if the sheriff’s department was any closer to solving the disappearance of Guthrie as the investigation approached 100 days.
“We are,” Nanos said before getting into a vehicle.
Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since Jan. 31.

Authorities believe Guthrie was taken against her will from her Tucson home in the early morning hours of Feb. 1. Her home surveillance camera captured a masked man outside her door.
Previously, authorities said blood identified as Guthrie’s was found outside the house, as was “mixed DNA” still being tested.
“We believe we know why [the kidnapper] did this and we believe that it was targeted, but we’re not 100% sure of that,” Nanos previously told NBC News in March. “So it’d be silly to tell people, ‘Don’t worry about it. You’re not his target.’ You could be. Don’t think for a minute that because it happened to the Guthrie family, you’re safe. No. Keep your wits about you.”
On Sunday, May 10, Savannah Guthrie posted an emotional Mother’s Day message on social media.
“We will never stop looking for you,” she wrote. “We will never be at peace until we find you.”
The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information that leads to Guthrie’s discovery or an arrest. The Guthrie family is offering a $1 million reward and donated $500,000 to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
Anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance is asked to please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
