The parents of murdered Queensland teenager Angus Beaumont have suffered another devastating tragedy after their home was allegedly deliberately set alight.

The Clontarf home belonging to Ben and Michelle Beaumont was engulfed in flames on Saturday afternoon, with police alleging a 36-year-old man known to the family poured accelerant throughout the property before setting it on fire.

More than 30 firefighters were called to battle the blaze, which destroyed the family home.

The alleged arson attack comes six years after the Beaumont family lost Angus, who was just 15 years old when he was stabbed to death by two teenagers in a high-profile 2020 case that sparked debate about youth crime laws in Queensland.

In a GoFundMe appeal launched after the fire, Angus’ aunt Mandy said the family had lost everything.

“This afternoon his house was burnt to the ground after someone he knew got into his house and poured petrol all over it and lit a match,” she wrote.

“They have lost everything. My brother is a gardener and he has now lost all his trucks and his tools too. They have nothing.”

Mandy said the latest tragedy had compounded the grief the family had already endured following Angus’ murder.

“This tragedy is on the back of, in 2020, when my brother’s son Angus was murdered in a car park, stabbed to death by two young men who — thanks to the laws in QLD — both now out and living their lives.”

“This destroyed our family back then, and this next blow is yet another bad bad thing.”

The home held deep significance for the Beaumont family as the place where Angus grew up before his death.

Among the family’s concerns is whether treasured memorial items connected to Angus survived the blaze.

“I know Angus’ ashes were kept in an urn in the lounge with a big beautiful framed picture of him, and I don’t know if they had time to save him,” Mandy wrote.

“But as this picture below would show, I think it must have gone up pretty fast and they are lucky to have survived.”

“No one should ever have to go through this… the violence that has been brought to them is something from the movies.”

Police allege the 36-year-old man fled the scene after lighting the fire before being tracked down by officers and the dog squad overnight.

He has since been charged with arson and is due to appear in Redcliffe Magistrates Court on Monday.

Redcliffe MP Kerri-Anne Dooley described the incident as an “unspeakable tragedy” and urged the community to support the family.

“Redcliffe if you can, please get behind them to help them rebuild.”

A fundraising campaign established to help the family rebuild has attracted widespread community support with almost $13,000 raised.
