James Farnham and his partner Dr Tessa Effendi have welcomed their first child: a healthy baby boy.

The son of Aussie singer John Farnham revealed in a statement shared to Instagram on Tuesday that his bundle of joy arrived earlier than expected on June 18 at St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Melbourne.

‘We thought we were excited to meet him – but turns out he was even more excited to meet us, arriving a little ahead of schedule,’ they wrote.

Jett John Farnham – whose middle name is a touching tribute to James’ dad – weighed in at 3.176kg, with new parents James and Tessa revealing that they are both ‘smitten’ and ‘sleep-deprived’ – and wouldn’t change it for the world.

‘Jett is our whole world in one tiny, noisy, perfect package. We’re smitten, sleep-deprived, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.’

First-time grandparents Jill and John Farnham also gushed about the latest addition to the family, while expressing their pride and joy for James and Tessa.

‘We are over the moon about the arrival of this perfectly beautiful little boy,’ they penned.

‘He’s already filled our hearts with so much love and we’re so proud and happy for James and Tessa. Welcome to the world, Jett!’

In January, James announced that he and his partner were expecting a baby boy.

A clip, posted to Instagram, showed James setting alight a beautifully decorated cake inscribed with the words ‘coming 2025’.

After he lit the inscription, it peeled away to reveal the word ‘Boy’, confirming they are having a son.

He also shared a photo of his partner’s ultrasound photo, which showed their unborn baby’s hand.

James captioned the clip with some heartfelt words: ‘Coming 2025! Tessa, I love you so much!’

Many of James’ celebrity friends quickly took to the comments section to congratulate the happy couple on the amazing news.

‘Congratulations guys. Great news to kick off the year,’ wrote Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac’s fiancée Rebecca James.

‘Ahhhhhhh this is the best ever! So happy for you guys,’ added Neighbours star Bonnie Anderson.

James has been in a relationship with Tessa, who is a registered Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, for several years and they previously attended the premiere of the John Farnham: Finding the Voice documentary together in Melbourne in 2023.

This will be the first grandchild for the legendary You’re the Voice singer, whose elder son Robert married his long-term girlfriend Melissa Kelly in 2024.
