NEED TO KNOW
Brooke Hanlon, 35, was stabbed to death on June 6 at 4:30 p.m. in her New Jersey home
There have been no arrests or suspects identified a month later, and now officials are asking the public for help
A family member who asked not to be identified because of the ongoing investigation tells PEOPLE Brooke’s daughter is being cared for by family
Brooke Hanlon died on June 6 after being stabbed to death inside her New Jersey home.
A 911 call was placed at 4:30 p.m. that day from her home in Chester, a town located about 40 miles west of New York City.
Brooke, 35, was in cardiac arrest and had suffered a large laceration to her chest, according to dispatch audio obtained by PEOPLE.
What happened before and after that call is unclear, and a month after her death, there have still been no arrests and no suspects identified in the case.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO), Chester Township Police Department and Morris County Sheriff’s Office CSI,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement last month.
Now, the MCPO is asking the public for help.
The agency announced that it is “seeking the public’s assistance with providing any information concerning the death of Brooke Hanlon or suspicious activity observed in the area of Pottersville Road” on the day of her murder.
Police and prosecutors have said nothing else about the crime or the investigation beyond that at this time.
PEOPLE learned that Brooke was a licensed psychotherapist who welcomed her first child in July 2025 with her husband James “Conor” Hanlon.
A family member who asked not to be identified because of the ongoing investigation tells PEOPLE that Brooke’s daughter is currently being cared for by family members but would not say if she was being cared for by her father.
Attempts to reach her husband were unsuccessful.
The home that Brooke and her husband shared with their daughter appeared to be untouched in the aftermath of the murder, with the couple’s two cars sitting outside the house in the same spots and the curtains hanging at the exact same height every day for three weeks.
A local resident tells PEOPLE that one of those cars is no longer outside the residence.
Brooke’s house is located in the same town she grew up in before attending college at Wake Forest University and then getting her master’s degree in clinical psychology at Northeastern University.
It was while studying in Boston that she met her husband, and the couple remained in Massachusetts for close to a decade after Brooke completed her studies, a family member tells PEOPLE.
They moved back to her hometown in 2023 and purchased property before welcoming their first child last summer.
It is still unclear who called 911 to report Brooke had been stabbed, and the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office released a statement saying that an autopsy “determined the cause of death to be multiple sharp force injuries and the manner of death as homicide.”
A $1,000 reward is now being offered and any person who might have information is encouraged to call the Morris County Crimestoppers hotline at 973-COP-CALL
