The Voice Coaches Through the Years: Who Led the Most Winners?

Over the course of 27 seasons, ‘The Voice’ has had a star-studded lineup of 23 coaches

The Voice first premiered on April 26, 2011, bringing an entirely new format to reality singing competitions to the United States.

The NBC series has been running strong for 27 seasons, spanning over a decade. Since the show’s premiere, 27 singers have been crowned the winner and even more contestants have made an impact in their own right.

In addition to new faces each year, The Voice has had a consistent flow of celebrity coaches to help shape their teams along the way, including Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend, among others.

In honor of the long-running competition series — which returned for its 27th season at the beginning of 2025 — here’s a look back at all of the coaches that have appeared in The Voice chairs over the last decade.

Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton was the longest running coach in the history of The Voice. The country music star was one of the original coaches, starting back in season 1 in 2011. Shelton remained a coach on the show for 23 consecutive seasons, before he announced his departure in October 2022, with his final season concluding in May 2023.

Shelton has the best track record of all of The Voice coaches. His team won a grand total of nine times including: Jermaine Paul in season 2, Cassadee Pope in season 3, Danielle Bradbery in season 4, Craig Wayne Boyd in season 7, Sundance Head in season 11, Chloe Kohanski in season 13, Todd Tilghman in season 18, Cam Anthony in season 20 and Bryce Leatherwood in season 22.

Outside of his time as a coach, Shelton is a nine-time Grammy nominee and has received various accolades for his music, including several CMA, ACM and CMT awards over the years. He’s also a partner in a small chain restaurant, Ole Red, and alongside The Voice host Carson Daly created the reality series Barmageddon, which brings celebrities together to battle at the singer’s bar.

Adam Levine

Adam Levine was one of the original coaches on The Voice, appearing on over a dozen seasons before he confirmed his departure from the competition series in May 2019.

Levine was the first coach whose team won The Voice. In season 1, Javier Colon was crowned the winner. Levine’s team won two more times during his tenure as coach, including Tessanne Chin in season 5 and Jordan Smith in season 9.

As a musician, Levine has fronted the group Maroon 5 for more than 20 years. The band has won three Grammys, and is best known for hits including “She Will Be Loved” and “Sugar.” Over the years, Levine has appeared on Saturday Night Live as both musical guest and hostand starred in several episodes of 2012’s American Horror Story: Asylum.

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera is part of the original crew of The Voice coaches alongside Shelton and Levine. She was featured in a total of six seasons on and off over the years.

Aguilera’s team took home the trophy only once during her tenure as coach, during season 10 with contestant Alisan Porter. While she wasn’t a coach at the time, she was an advisor for Stefani’s team during season 7.

Prior to joining the show, Aguilera was already a beloved pop star revered for her powerful vocals, with tracks like “Beautiful” and “Fighter.” She even tried her hand at acting, starring alongside Cher in Burlesque, a role on Nashville and in The Emoji Movie.

CeeLo Green

CeeLo Green rounded out the original lineup of coaches on The Voice. After appearing in the first three installments (with no wins), the singer returned as an an advisor for seasons 4, 8 and 15.

Before the show, Green was a member of the Atlanta hip-hop group Goodie Mob. He later formed the duo Gnarls Barkley, responsible for the hit single “Crazy.”

Green also achieved success as a solo singer with the release of the song “F— You!” and his 2010 album The Lady Killer.

Shakira

Shakira joined the reality TV competition in 2013 and appeared in two seasons.

Although her team didn’t bring home wins during the series, Shakira is a global superstar, who broke into the English market in 2001 with her Laundry Service album.

She is also a four-time Grammy winner and 15-time Latin Grammy winner and was featured on one of the biggest stages in the world when she performed at the Super Bowl in 2020 alongside Jennifer Lopez.

The Voice coach: Seasons 4, 6

Usher

Usher was cast in The Voice in 2013 and was a coach for two seasons. While Usher’s time on the show was short, his team took home a win, thanks to contestant Josh Kaufman in season 6. Usher later returned as an advisor during seasons 8, 17 and 19.

Prior to joining the singing competition as a coach, Usher had been releasing music since he was a teenager. He’s a pillar of the R&B community, responsible for hits including “My Boo” and “U Got It Bad,” in addition to his popular collaboration with Lil Jon and Ludacris, “Yeah!”

Usher made his Broadway debut in 2006 as Billy Flynn in Chicago, and later appeared in a variety of movies and TV shows, including She’s All That and Hustlers. He also headlined the 2024 Super Bowl with a medley of some of his biggest hit songs from over the decades.

Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani was brought on to The Voice in 2014 and returned several times throughout the show’s run. Stefani’s team came out on top during season 19, with singer Carter Rubin taking home the trophy. Stefani also served as an advisor during seasons 8 and 10.

Outside of her team’s win, Stefani also met her now-husband, Shelton, the same year she was brought on as a coach. She admitted in a November 2024 interview that she “never even knew he existed” before the show. The couple married in July 2021.

Prior to The Voice, Stefani had already made a name for herself in the music industry with her group No Doubt and her solo music, including the hit “Hollaback Girl.” She’s continued to release new music throughout her time on the show, and had a Las Vegas residency from 2018 to 2021.

Pharrell Williams

Pharrell Williams joined The Voice as a coach in 2014, and he stayed in his red chair for four consecutive seasons. During his run on the singing competition series, Williams’ team won in season 8 with contestant Sawyer Fredericks. Before he was a coach, Williams also was an advisor for Usher’s team during season 4.

Prior to joining the show, Williams was a revered songwriter, producer and musician. Over the years, he has been a part of several groups, including The Neptunes and N.E.R.D.. Williams also worked on the music score for Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2, which spawned the earworm “Happy.” Alongside Daft Punk, their tune “Get Lucky” took over radio waves in 2013.

Outside of music, Williams has also made a name for himself in the world of fashion, including co-creating several streetwear brands, and was appointed the men’s creative director of Louis Vuitton in 2023. He also founded the skincare line, Humanrace.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus joined The Voice in 2016, and served as a coach for two seasons. During the singer’s time on the show, she didn’t have wins but did work with the late Janice Freeman. Cyrus also was an advisor during season 10.

Prior to joining The Voice, Cyrus was a star in her own right, both for her music and acting career. She portrayed Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana, which spawned the 2009’s Hannah Montana: The Movie, followed by leading roles in The Last Song and LOL.

By the time Cyrus was named a coach, she had five solo studio albums under her belt. She has since released three more albums, including Younger Now, Plastic Hearts and Endless Summer Vacation, featuring the hit “Flowers.”

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys made her debut on the reality TV singing competition in 2016 alongside Cyrus, and served as a coach for three seasons.

Much like many of her counterparts, she started as an advisor on season 7 before she joined the show full time. During her second season as coach, Keys’ team was victorious when Chris Blue took home the trophy during season 12.

Prior to the show, Keys was a beloved singer and pianist who has been creating music for well over two decades. She’s known for her critically acclaimed 2001 album Songs in A Minor and 2003’s The Diary of Alicia Keys.

She’s also a 17-time Grammy winner, and told her story of growing up in New York City into the Broadway musical, Hell’s Kitchen.

Jennifer Hudson

From American Idol to The Voice, Jennifer Hudson joined the singing competition show in 2017, though she only appeared as a coach on the U.S. version of the show for two seasons. She also served as a coach on The Voice U.K. for seasons 6-8, and became the first female coach at the helm of a winning team on the series.

Outside of the show, Hudson is an awarded singer and actress. After appearing on season 3 of American Idol (finishing in 7th place), Hudson was cast in the movie Dreamgirls as Effie White, a role which earned her a Golden Globe Award and Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

As a singer, she is a two-time Grammy winner, including for her 2009 self-titled album. After scoring a Daytime Emmy in 2021, Hudson became an EGOT recipient in June 2022 following A Strange Loop’s win at the Tony Awards.

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson made her way to The Voice as a coach in 2018 and served for nine consecutive seasons before stepping away. She later briefly returned for another season in 2023. Clarkson was an early advisor during the series, appearing on season 2 for Shelton’s team, and again in season 13.

The original American Idol winner helped foster champions on The Voice. During her multi-season run, Clarkson’s team winners included Brynn Cartelli in season 14, Chevel Shepherd in season 15, Jake Hoot in season 17 and Girl Named Tom in season 21.

Prior to The Voice, Clarkson got her start as a musician after her American Idol win. A three-time Grammy winner, Clarkson is responsible for several hit songs from the 2000s and 2010s, including “Since U Been Gone” and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).” She landed her own talk show in 2019, The Kelly Clarkson Show, which has been going strong for six seasons on NBC.

John Legend

John Legend joined The Voice in 2019 and the crooner was part of the coach’s lineup for six consecutive seasons. He briefly stepped away from the show after season 22 and again after season 25, but returned for season 27 in 2025.

After getting his start as an advisor on season 10 for Levine’s team, Legend’s team took home the trophy once when singer Maelyn Jarmon won season 16.

Legend began his career as a studio musician before releasing his own solo music, including his 2004 debut album Get Lifted. He’s a 13-time Grammy winning musician, and became the first Black man to achieve EGOT status.

He received the honor in 2018, earning an Oscar in 2014 for the song “Glory,” a Tony Award in 2017 for Jitney and a Daytime Emmy in 2018 for Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

Nick Jonas

Nick Jonas joined The Voice in 2020 and appeared on the show as a coach for two seasons. He also appeared as an advisor for Aguilera’s team during season 8.

He is best known for being one third of the Jonas Brothers, a group that includes his older brothers Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas. He has also released several solo albums over the years, including three under his name and 2009’s Who I Am from his side project Nick Jonas & the Administration.

Before his music career, Jonas got his start on Broadway as a child, including Gavroche in Les Miserables. As an adult, he made his return to the stage and has appeared in a 2012 run of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and a 2025 production of The Last Five Years.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande was cast on The Voice in 2021 for one season.

Grande’s career began on Broadway as a teenager in the musical 13, before her breakout role on the Nickelodeon show Victorious, followed by the spinoff Sam & Cat.

All the while, Grande worked on her solo career, which has flourished since her 2011 debut. Her discography is chock-full of hits, including “Dangerous Woman” and “7 Rings.”

Most recently, Grande also gained critical acclaim and an Oscar nod for her role as Glinda in the movie adaptation of Wicked.

Camila Cabello

Camila Cabello made her debut on The Voice in 2022. Prior to her time as a coach, she also served as an advisor during season 21 for Legend’s team.

Cabello was part of the girl group Fifth Harmony, which was formed on The X Factor in 2012. The group were responsible for hits like “Work From Home.” She left the group in 2016, and Fifth Harmony disbanded in March 2018 for an indefinite hiatus.

Cabello’s solo career has consisted of tracks including “Havana” and “Señorita” with Shawn Mendes.

Chance the Rapper

Chance the Rapper made his coaching debut on The Voice in 2023, and appeared for two non-consecutive seasons.

The Chicago-born rapper gained notoriety early in his career for his self-released mixtapes and for the accolades he received as an independent artist.

His third mixtape became the first album to chart on the Billboard 200 based only on streaming, per the Grammy Awards. He became the first streaming-only artist to win a Grammy, as the first male rap solo artist to win Best New Artist.

Niall Horan

Niall Horan was no stranger to reality TV competitions when he joined The Voice in 2023.

Horan’s team was a fan favorite during his short but sweet run as a coach on The Voice. While One Direction didn’t win The X Factor in 2010, Horan’s team won in season 23 with singer Gina Miles and again in season 24 with Huntley.

Horan was a member of One Direction before he released his first solo album, Flicker, in 2017, featuring “This Town” and “Slow Hands.” He has released two albums since, including 2020’s Heartbreak Weather and 2023’s The Show.

Reba McEntire

Reba McEntire joined The Voice as a coach in 2023.

McEntire’s team took home a win during her second season as a coach, with singer Asher HaVon named the winner of season 25. She was also one of the original advisors of the show, appearing on season 1 for Shelton’s team.

McEntire started her career as a country musician, releasing numerous albums between the ’70s and ’90s, with her breakthrough coming in the form of 1984’s My Kind of Country.

She delved into the world of acting amid her burgeoning career as a musician, including roles in Tremors and Buffalo Girls. McEntire later appeared on Broadway in a revival of Annie Get Your Gun and starred on the sitcom Reba for six seasons.

Dan + Shay

Musical duo Dan + Shay — consisting of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney — joined The Voice for one season in 2024, becoming the first ever double coach on the U.S. version of the show. They were also Shelton’s team advisor during season 20.

The country music duo have been making music together for over a decade. They released their first album, Where It All Began, in 2014, and made their Grand Ole Opry debut the same year.

They’ve been nominated for three Grammys, including a 2019 win for their hit song “Tequila” and another award in 2021 for their collaboration with Justin Bieber, “10,000 Hours.” Over the years, they’ve toured with Shelton, Hunter Hayes, Thomas Rhett and more.

Michael Bublé

Michael Bublé finally became a coach on The Voice at the end of 2024, after turning down the role “15-16” times.

Bublé made a splash during his first season, with his team winning season 26 when Sofronio Vasquez was named the winner. He also served as Shelton’s team’s advisor back in season 3.

The singer is well-known for his covers, including “Feeling Good” and “Sway,” as well as his originals “Home,” “Haven’t Met You Yet” and “Everything.” Bublé has also become a staple during the holiday season with his Christmas albums.

Outside of appearing on The Voice, Bublé has hosted the Juno Awards in Canada on several occasions, appeared as a guest judge on Dancing with the Stars and hosted several Christmas television specials.

Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg made his coaching debut on The Voice alongside Bublé in 2024.

While his time on the show was brief and lasted only one season, the rapper was not shy about showing his emotions on-screen. He also appeared on the show during season 20 as an advisor.

Prior to joining the show, Snoop Dogg had been one of the most prominent and influential rappers since the ’90s, known for hits like “Gin and Juice” and “Drop It Like It’s Hot.”

His accolades have racked up over the years, including over a dozen Grammy nominations. Snoop Dogg also appeared as part of the star-studded lineup during the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show.

Outside of his music, he’s been featured in a variety of movies and TV shows and has appeared on three Comedy Central Roasts. He’s become a beloved media personality over the years, including providing commentary on the Olympics, and his friendship with Martha Stewart.

Kelsea Ballerini

Kelsea Ballerini is one of the newest additions to The Voice lineup, joining the show in 2025 as a first time coach. However, it wasn’t her first foray into the singing competition.

She technically joined the show in season 15 as the fifth coach for six contestants who weren’t chosen during the auditions for the digital show The Comeback Stage. Ballerini also had experience as an advisor during season 16 and was a guest coach while Clarkson was out sick.

Ballerini broke out into the country music scene over a decade ago with her debut single, 2014’s “Love Me Like You Mean It,” followed by her first album in 2015. She’s released five studio albums throughout her career and two EPs, including Rolling Up The Welcome Mat.

Ballerini has collaborated with the likes of Clarkson, Halsey and Noah Kahan, and has toured with Keith Urban, Jonas Brothers, The Judds and others.
