Grab your tissues—the tender video released by Kensington Palace today with a health update about Catherine, The Princess of Wales is going to make you emotional.
Spoiler alert: it also contains the very best news—Kate Middleton has completed chemotherapy and is now focused on staying cancer-free.
The Palace announced in March Kate had been diagnosed with cancer following a planned abdominal surgery. She has remained mostly absent from public life and her royal duties for several months—so seeing the beloved future Queen looking happy and healthy is a beautiful sight.
In the three-minute video, soft music plays while Kate speaks over home video-style clips of her, Prince William, and their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, in a picturesque woodsy setting laughing, exploring, and embracing one another.
“The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family,” Kate begins. “Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”
As the video continues, she shares candidly about the emotional journey of a cancer diagnosis, and the beauty of embracing “the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”
Kate says though she has finished her chemotherapy treatment and is looking forward to resuming some of her public duties, “…my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
As images of the family move across the screen, Kate opens up about the deep gratitude she and her family feel. “Despite all that has gone before I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life. William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time. Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling.”
The video concludes with a message of empathy and hope that will bring a tear to your eye. “To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey – I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
We join the world in wishing Kate and the entire family continued health and happiness!
