It’s been almost five years since Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock announced that they were getting divorced. The pair welcomed two kids during the seven years that they were married: Remington “Remy” Alexander, 9, and River Rose, 10.

Kelly has been pretty open about how her kids have handled their parents’ divorce, candidly admitting last November that both Remy and River were not on board with the idea of her dating anyone else. “Both my kids are not [into it and] they constantly bring it up: ‘Please, we don’t want you to be with anybody else,’” Kelly shared during a radio appearance on KOST 103.5. “They’re young, so it’s hard to picture their mom with someone else other than their dad.”

“I have expressed like, ‘Hey, I love you, but Mommy needs loving, too,’” she recalled.
More recently, Kelly discussed her kids’ reaction to her divorce once again during a candid chat on her self-titled talk show.

Last week, Olivia Munn joined Kelly on her show, where the pair discussed what it was like growing up as kids with divorced parents. Olivia — who now has two children with John Mulaney — admitted, “I think the thing that we as parents forget is how much we are aware of as little kids and how much we remember,” prompting Kelly to share whether or not her kids remember her and Brandon’s split.

“One of mine does remember and then one of them was like, ‘Do you know my dad?’” Kelly recalled, laughing and looking surprised. She then quipped, “I was like, ‘Well, we’ve run into each other at least twice.’”

“He didn’t get the joke, obviously. So he was like, ‘Twice OK. So you’ve seen each other,’” she said, while Olivia jokingly added, “It’s nice to know you guys know each other.”

“Because one was really young, but the other one does [remember] — and it’s hard,” she added.
