In a devastating turn that has left Western Australia reeling, a 12-year-old girl has tragically died in hospital nearly two days after being pulled unresponsive from the water at Trigg Beach on Christmas Eve.
The horror unfolded around 6:30pm on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, when two 12-year-old girls were caught in a powerful rip current and dragged out to sea at the popular Perth beach.

Trigg Beach, known for its stunning white sands and crystal waters, hides deadly dangers – particularly the notorious “Blue Hole” near Trigg Point, infamous for its strong, unpredictable rips that have claimed lives before.
A brave surfer sprang into action, first rescuing one girl and bringing her safely to shore. He then returned to the treacherous waters, locating the second girl unresponsive and hauling her back to the beach.
Horrified onlookers watched as police, volunteer lifeguards from Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club (who were coincidentally training nearby), and two off-duty doctors frantically performed CPR on the sand.

It’s understood a defibrillator was used in the desperate bid to revive her. Five St John WA ambulances rushed to the scene, and the critically injured girl was airlifted or escorted under police lights to Perth Children’s Hospital.
Despite the heroic efforts of rescuers and medical staff battling around the clock, WA Police confirmed the heartbreaking news: she passed away in the early hours of Thursday, December 25, 2025 – on Christmas Day itself.
