“GOODBYE, MY DEAREST FRIEND…”
Linda Robson Breaks Down in Tears as She Says a Final Farewell to Pauline Quirke
In a scene that left the audience silent, breathless, and visibly moved, Linda Robson stepped onto the small stage at London’s historic King’s Theatre last night, clutching a trembling sheet of paper. Her hands shook. Her voice cracked. And before she spoke a single word, tears were already rolling down her cheeks.
“Goodbye, my dearest friend…” she whispered, her voice barely audible.
It was the moment no one expected — a raw, emotional farewell to Pauline Quirke, the woman who had shared more than forty years of laughter, tears, secrets, victories, and painful lows with her. The two actresses, inseparable figures in British entertainment for decades, built a sisterhood that millions of viewers felt a part of. And last night, Linda seemed to close a chapter she never imagined she would write.
Though billed as a simple “Tribute Evening,” the event quickly became something far deeper — a final bow to a partnership that shaped both women’s lives. Hundreds packed the venue. Dozens more stood outside, clutching photos, DVDs, and long-forgotten Birds of a Feather memorabilia. The anticipation was electric… but no one foresaw the emotional storm that would unfold.
After a brief montage of their early television days, Linda took centre stage — not as a performer, but as a woman confronting the weight of memory.

“People always think they know what happens between two people who’ve worked together for so long,” she began, her eyes glistening. “But what Pauline and I shared… it wasn’t a TV partnership. It was a life partnership.”
The room erupted in applause, but the usually strong, grounded Linda had to pause to steady herself. She laughed softly, joking, “Pauline would be laughing at me right now, telling me to pull myself together.” The audience laughed with her — but her smile faded quickly.
What followed was a beautifully woven story of two girls from North London who grew up side by side, stumbled into fame, fought for their places in an unforgiving industry, and always — always — found their way back to each other.
Linda spoke of the early days, before the fame, when both were simply “two kids with big dreams and bigger hair.” Of auditions in cramped rooms, of late-night rehearsals, of the fear of failure and the thrill of being cast together. Their chemistry was instant, magnetic, unstoppable.
“We didn’t act like best friends,” Linda said. “We were best friends. We were sisters.”
Her voice trembled again, and she wiped her eyes. The room was silent except for the occasional sniffle from audience members.
As the night continued, Linda shared stories the public had never heard — tender moments, difficult conversations, and a bond that survived career changes, personal struggles, and the ruthless demands of showbusiness. More than once, she had to turn away from the microphone to compose herself.
But the most poignant moment came near the end.
Linda opened a small box and revealed a simple silver necklace — one half of a matching set she and Pauline had exchanged more than thirty years earlier. The pendant, shaped like a broken heart, had been split into two pieces. Pauline kept one. Linda kept the other.
“Every time we were apart… this kept us together,” Linda whispered, holding it up for the audience to see. “And tonight, I say farewell, not because the friendship has ended, but because life changes. People change. Paths change. But love — real love — doesn’t disappear.”
Her final words drew gasps and tears from every corner of the theatre.
“Pauline, wherever you are tonight… thank you for sharing your life with me. For being my confidante. My partner in mischief. My rock. My family. This isn’t goodbye forever. Just goodbye for now.”
The lights dimmed. The screen behind her lit up with a final photograph — the two women in their Birds of a Feather prime, arms thrown around each other, laughing uncontrollably as if nothing in the world could ever come between them.

The audience rose to its feet in a standing ovation that lasted nearly three minutes.
Some farewells are quiet. Some are simple.
But this one — raw, heartbreaking, unforgettable — felt like the closing of a lifelong chapter.
And for Linda Robson, it was a farewell delivered with every tear, every tremble, and every ounce of love a friend can carry.
