New York City police inspector Jeremy Scheublin, who was sued for allegedly sexually assaulting a fellow officer and telling her that he wanted to “make biracial babies” with her, has been suspended.

An NYPD spokesperson confirmed Scheublin’s suspension to PEOPLE on Saturday, July 4. The New York Post also confirmed the suspension earlier on Saturday, citing internal police documents that state Scheublin was removed from his position on Tuesday, June 30.

The New York Times and News 12 reported in March that Scheublin, a 24-year veteran of the force, was placed on modified duty soon after he was sued in Bronx Supreme Court and was stripped of his badge and gun.

The officer who filed the lawsuit — identified as a 34-year-old officer and single mother of two children, per the Times — alleged that Scheublin attacked her while they were in his office at the 46th Precinct, which covers parts of the western Bronx.

The alleged incident at the center of the lawsuit took place on Jan. 1, 2025, while they were both on duty.

The officer alleged in her complaint that while they were in his office, Scheublin grabbed her buttocks, threw her onto a couch and tried to kiss her, all while armed.

Scheublin put his hand around her neck and attempted to take off her gun belt, and the officer then “physically fought off defendant Scheublin by kicking him in the groin and escaping his office,” per the Times, which cited the complaint.

“[She] believed Scheublin, who was wearing his service weapon, would rape her if she didn’t fight him off,” the complaint states, per the Post.

The officer, whom the outlets reported is a Black woman, claimed that after Scheublin attacked her, he told her he wanted to “make biracial babies” with her, according to the complaint.

The officer immediately reported what happened to the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, the outlets reported.

In the complaint, the anonymous woman said she often attempted to avoid Scheublin leading up to the alleged assault, per the Times.

The officer alleged that after Scheublin was assigned to the 46th Precinct, he took a personal interest in her and asked about her love life, called her when she was off duty and commented on her appearance, per the Times.

Scheublin once stopped her as she was leaving a meeting and said, “I do not know whether I should smack or kiss you,” the complaint states, according to the Times. The officer blocked Scheublin’s number and avoided the precinct’s holiday party because of how uncomfortable he made her, per the complaint.

The officer said in the complaint that after she told the Internal Affairs Bureau about the alleged assault, Scheublin began to retaliate, forcing her to work late-night shifts that began at 3 a.m. and switching partners, per the Times.

The complaint also claims that the NYPD was aware of the alleged incident for more than a year and that Scheublin retaliated against the officer, made threats and attempted to bribe her not to speak out, per News 12.

The department offered to transfer her out of the Bronx precinct, but she declined, according to the Times.

“A victim of a sexual assault should not be punished by being forced to uproot her career,” the officer’s attorney, John Scola, wrote in the motion, per the Times.

Scheublin remained the commanding officer of the precinct, where the female officer was working desk duty, until he was transferred on Jan. 12, 2026, the Times reported.

In a comment to the Post on Saturday, Scola criticized how long the NYPD took to act after the incident.

“Our client had the courage to report the assault immediately, but the NYPD lacked the courage to remove Inspector Scheublin from full duty even after referring the case for criminal investigation,” the officer’s attorney said.

The Post reported on Saturday that Scheublin filed for retirement last month.

Scheublin’s lawyer, Oliver Storch, told PEOPLE that his client retired “to not be a further distraction to the NYPD and to concentrate on addressing the hurtful and false allegations in the lawsuit.”

“The NYPD suspended him after he filed for retirement,” Storch said, adding that Scheublin intends to “address all accusations in the appropriate forum and asks the public to withhold judgment until conclusion of the process.”
