Incredible! Chiefs Bring in a New Asset for Patrick Mahomes to Keep Travis Kelce on His Toes!

With injuries hampering the Kansas City Chiefs roster, they signed a new weapon for Patrick Mahomes. As Travis Kelce enters what could be his last season, this should be an insurance move for Andy Reid’s team.

As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the 2025 NFL season, injuries have already started to interrupt their preseason plans. That made the team go and sign a new weapon for Patrick Mahomes. This move might put some pressure on Travis Kelce.

While not a popular name to NFL fans, it is an old face for the Chiefs. Kansas City signed tight end Geor’Quarius Spivey, who has tried out for the team three times now. He has been signed on two occasions now, but last time he couldn’t make it into the 53-man roster.

While it’s clear Travis Kelce is still the best tight end on the team, the Chiefs need insurance. Undrafted Free Agents Jake Briningstool and Tre Watson are sidelined due to ailments. Jared Wiley is still recovering from his ACL injury in 2024. This sent alarms to coach Andy Reid as many tight ends are out of action.

Spivey played on the Houston Roughnecks from the UFL last season. At a massive 6-foot-5 frame and 240 pounds, Spivey wants to make an impact and finally take a spot on the 53-man roster.

Travis Kelce might be playing his last season

Kelce has already declared he will come back for one more year. Many are taking it as ‘The Last Dance.’ This would mean one of the most coveted tight end spots in the NFL will be up for grabs. No one thinks Kelce will be replaced this season as the starter. However, it’s likely the Chiefs are looking for an heir to the throne he will leave.

Spivey had 28 catches and 298 yards with 1 touchdown in his college career. He will try to be in consideration for that hole on the roster. Spivey’s numbers on both college and UFL are nothing to be ecstatic about, but there is something on his repertoire that intrigues the Chiefs. That explains why he has tried out three times and why he’s been signed twice now.

The Chiefs want to bounce back

The Chiefs failed to capture a historic NFL three-peat by losing the Super Bowl to the Eagles. It was a tough pill to swallow. The Chiefs were beaten, but also got overwhelmed.

The last time they lost a Super Bowl,Patrick Mahomes guided the team all the way back to the big game and won it. Looking at the past, that’s what the Chiefs want to replicate. If there is a team that can bounce back from a tough defeat, it’s Kansas City.
