Fatal Shooting in Western Sydney: Man Arrested Over Targeted Attack Linked to Organised Crime

Sydney, March 16, 2026 – NSW Police have made an arrest in connection with a fatal shooting in Lidcombe that killed 38-year-old Abdullah Bahsa and injured another man in the early hours of Monday. The incident, believed to be a targeted hit with “strong links” to organised crime, occurred inside an apartment on Shale Street around 4:00am.
Emergency services arrived to find Bahsa suffering multiple gunshot wounds, mainly to the torso and stomach. Paramedics provided urgent treatment before transporting him to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A second man at the scene sustained non-life-threatening injuries during what police describe as an initial assault by a group of five “heavyset” men dressed in black.
Superintendent Robert Toynton of Auburn Area Command stated: “This is not a random attack. From what we’ve discovered so far, there are strong links to organised crime in relation to this homicide.” The Homicide Squad has taken over the investigation, with forensic teams processing the crime scene for ballistic evidence, fingerprints, and DNA.
Police believe the group of five men confronted Bahsa and his companion before the shooting escalated. Officers are reviewing CCTV from the unit block, nearby streets, and surrounding businesses, and have appealed for dashcam footage or any witnesses who saw suspicious activity in the Shale Street area between 3:30am and 4:30am.

Bahsa was previously known to police due to associations with underworld figures, though specific details remain protected. The arrested man, whose identity has not been released pending charges, is assisting investigators. Police continue searching for the remaining four suspects believed to have fled the scene.
The shooting has intensified community concerns about gang-related violence in Western Sydney. Lidcombe, near major sporting venues and transport hubs, is normally quiet at that hour, making the pre-dawn attack particularly alarming for residents. Local leaders have called for increased patrols and urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.

NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb stressed that targeted incidents involving organised crime receive top priority. “We are committed to disrupting these networks and bringing those responsible to justice,” she said.

As the investigation progresses, authorities expect to announce further charges, possible motives, and additional arrests in the coming days. The tragic death of Abdullah Bahsa serves as another stark reminder of the deadly consequences tied to organised crime disputes in Greater Sydney.
