‘The Last Mrs. Parrish’ made waves as a Reese Witherspoon book club pick in December 2017

Jennifer Lopez is preparing to make another movie with Netflix.

PEOPLE confirmed on Thursday, April 17 that Lopez, 55, is set to star in a feature adaptation of Liv Constantine’s 2017 novel The Last Mrs. Parrish, directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump).

The Last Mrs. Parrish gained popularity as a Reese Witherspoon book club pick back in December 2017. The novel has since sold over one million copies and has been published in over 34 countries. According to a Bookshop.org description for the novel, it follows a Connecticut-area woman named Amber Patterson, who takes advantage of a wealthy couple in her town, Daphne and Jackson, and inserts herself into their lives.

“Amber uses Daphne’s compassion and caring to insinuate herself into the family’s life — the first step in a meticulous scheme to undermine her,” reads the description. “Before long, Amber is Daphne’s closest confidante, traveling to Europe with the Parrishes and their lovely young daughters, and growing closer to Jackson. But a skeleton from her past may undermine everything that Amber has worked towards, and if it is discovered, her well-laid plan may fall to pieces.”

Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina will produce the project through Lopez’s production company Nuyorican Productions. Molly Sims and Liza Chasin are also listed as producers on the movie, which Variety first reported Netflix had put into development back in September 2021.

Lopez is already currently working on an upcoming Netlix romantic comedy titled Office Romance that pairs her with Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso), who also co-wrote the movie’s script. Lopez confirmed her casting in that movie on Instagram in September when she shared a Deadline article regarding the film to her Instagram Stories and wrote, “This is going to be fun!!!”

Screenwriters Andrea Berloff and John Gatins — both Academy Award nominees for their individual work on the movies Straight Outta Compton and Flight, respectively — are writing the screenplay for The Last Mrs. Parrish. The movie does not yet have a release date. For director Zemeckis, 72, The Last Mrs. Parrish marks his first project since he teamed up with Forrest Gump‘s Tom Hanks and Robin Wright for last year’s Here.

Lopez most recently appeared on the big screen in the wrestling biopic Unstoppable. Her upcoming movie Kiss of the Spider Woman premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and will release in theaters on Oct. 10.
