If you’ve watched (read: binged) Black Mirror season 7 then you’re not alone. We’ve powered through all of the latest episodes and, while they’re all absolutely chef’s kiss, one episode in particular has really stuck with us.

Of course, we’re talking about episode two—“Bête Noire”—which has had fans of the series reeling in more ways than one. Just take a look at social media for evidence of that, where you’ll see plenty of viewers pointing to the “triggering” Mandela effect created by this episode—and the fact Netflix released two different versions to confuse viewers even further.

Now, Black Mirror‘s creator Charlie Brooker has weighed in on it all, taking to the official Netflix X account to give his words on whether it’s Bernie’s Chicken or Barnie’s Chicken.

In a short clip shared to the streaming giant’s feed, accompanied with a caption that repeats the words Bernie’s and Barnie’s more times than we can count, Charlie holds a cap from the show and tells fans: “If you’ve seen the Black Mirror episode Bête Noire you’ll recognize this.”

“It’s a Barnie’s cap. Or is it a Bernie’s cap?” he continues. “That’s actually a key plot point in the episode.”

Charlie goes on: “Depending on which version of the episode you saw, you might have a different take on it. Did we change anything? Well I couldn’t possibly comment. You’re going to have to go back and watch it again for yourselves, and argue about it.”

And argue about it fans did, replying to the post with their take on it. “I’m a Barnie’s…” one person said in response, as someone else joked: “I got Bornie’s.” Meanwhile, a third fan pointed out that even Charlie is playing with our minds with his post. “Not this cap changing as the video went on lol,” they wrote.
