Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell revealed the history of his and Bruno Tonioli’s friendship after knowing each other for 40 years.

Simon and Bruno appeared on This Morning during Friday’s (25th April) instalment, and sat down with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary to chat about the latest series of the hit talent show.

Britain’s Got Talent will air its first lot of live semi-finals this weekend, with an added twist that will see golden buzzers added to the shows.

This means that for the first time, any of the judges or Ant and Dec can press the golden buzzer to send a semi-finalist straight through to the final.

Alison was surprised to hear that the pair have known each other since the 80s, as Simon shared: “We probably met in a club… Bruno was a dancer, I was starting a record label and then Bruno became a choreographer and then over the years we were friends, and then we started to work together.”

He continued: “I had this band and I needed them to get ready to perform. I said look, ‘I’ve got this great guy for you to work with, his name is Bruno’. I told Bruno all about it and he worked with them for weeks.”

Bruno added that he “loves everything about music” and “that was the year I got Strictly, remembering the following year I joined American Idol.”

He then recalled a funny moment between him and Simon as he shared: “I was in the trailer next to him and he has a double decker, it’s like a house.

“We were next door to each other. I arrived and it looked like a shed with washing lines!”

Bruno continued to joke: “I think I have to look at my contract”.

Simon then revealed he made sure his trailer was always next to Bruno’s to wind him up, which Dermot pointed out sums up his sense of humour.

As they laughed, Bruno replied: “I fall for it all the time!… I know him for 40 years and I still, still, he gets me!”

Simon then admitted he was so “upset” to see how well Bruno was doing on Strictly if the show was doing better than his at the time, but agreed that he’s a very good judge to have on BGT.

Dino rock band Heavysaurus, magician Teddy Magic, singer Vinnie McKee, dance group The Blackouts, variety act Akira, sword swallower Auzzy Blood, singer Linda Mudzenda and magician Eden Choi will all be competing to win a spot in the final this weekend.
