With Neve Campbell’s Maggie McPherson returning for all 10 episodes in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4, I need the story to focus on one of the most important relationships of the series. Since its release, the Netflix legal drama has garnered a passionate audience, building off the popularity of the Lincoln Lawyer book series by author Michael Connelly. I started watching the show after the release of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 and immediately became invested in the characters’ lives.
Because the third season topped the chart for the top streaming shows of 2024, Netflix renewed The Lincoln Lawyer for season 4. When announcing the renewal, they shared casting news, including the full-time return of Neve Campbell. I couldn’t be more excited to hear that Maggie’s coming back because it allows the series to zoom in on a relationship that serves as a driving force for Mickey Haller.
Maggie’s Return To San Diego Means Hayley Will Be Back Too
Hayley Haller Will Most Likely Be Back In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4

Most fans seem excited about Neve Campbell’s return in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 because it could lead to Mickey and Maggie reconciling their romance. This relationship could be interesting to explore again, though I prefer them as co-parents and friends. However, Maggie coming back full-time in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 excites me because it means the story will also most likely bring back Hayley Haller.
Mickey barely got to see his daughter after she and Maggie moved to San Diego. If Maggie moves back to Los Angeles to support Mickey during his trial in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4, Hayley will have to come along, too, since she’s still a high schooler. This opens the door for more scenes with Mickey and Hayley.
I Want To See More Of Hayley & Mickey In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4
Mickey & Hayley’s Relationship Is More Important Than Any Of His Romances
Mickey’s relationship with Hayley has always felt heartwarming to me. No matter how he feels about Maggie, he still continues to show up for her. This becomes strained when Maggie and Hayley move away and again when Eddie dies. It’s sad, albeit understandable for a teenager, when she lashes out at Mickey after the funeral, but he loves her enough to give her space. Luckily, they reconcile at the end of The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, so it would be nice to see them having a stronger relationship with more sweet moments in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4.
The inclusion of sweet moments between Mickey and Hayley would fit with Michael Connelly’s The Law of Innocence book, too. During the book, she ditches her classes to see him in court since he won’t let her see him in jail. They go on a trip to the beach after he gets his ankle monitor, which is an endearing scene. Hayley and Mickey also meet up for lunch and early dinner while he’s out on bail before he goes back to jail. By the end, she takes time off school so she can be there for her father.
Scenes between Hayley and Mickey would also explore a different side of the legal system than what’s been shown. Thus far, The Lincoln Lawyer has included the perspectives of the guilty, the wrongfully accused, the victims, the prosecutors, and the defense attorneys. However, they haven’t given much attention or voice to the children of the defendants. I would appreciate seeing a scene that highlights Hayley’s feelings about the trial and how that impacts her relationship with Mickey.
How Hayley Haller Can Help With Mickey’s Case In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4
Mickey’s Murder Trial Could Amplify Hayley’s Interest In The Law

Throughout The Law of Innocence, Hayley is a first-year law student and involves herself in the trial as much as Mickey will let her. He does try to keep her away, though, when he’s in jail. In the Netflix show, she’s a teenager in high school, possibly around eleventh grade. She mentions at the end of The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 that she’s interested in taking college classes early and eventually becoming a lawyer, which is a nod to the original storyline.
Considering she’s Mickey’s daughter, Lorna would probably be more than happy to have Hayley help out in the office.
However, The Lincoln Lawyer doesn’t need to distance her from the trial altogether. Hayley seems like the kind of person who would want to get involved to help cope with the stress of the trial. I’d love to see Hayley Haller working part-time at the law firm after school or interning there over the summer to help with Mickey’s case. Although most law firms only hire law students, it isn’t completely unheard of for a high schooler interested in becoming a lawyer to work at a law firm.
Considering she’s Mickey’s daughter, Lorna would probably be more than happy to have Hayley help out in the office. If nothing else, I’d be happy to see her showing up to most of Mickey’s hearings and at his trial in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, like she does in The Law of Innocence.
