After the recent release of The Night Agent season two, which featured a huge cliffhanger in the finale, the release date of the show’s upcoming third season remains shrouded in mystery.
Before the second season debuted on Netflix on January 23rd, the show had already been renewed for season three. This wasn’t surprising, considering the first season was one of the streaming giant’s biggest hits of 2023, and season two had been hotly anticipated by viewers and TV critics alike.
Filming for season three has already begun in Istanbul, Turkey, as revealed by creator Shawn Ryan (The Shield). The production is then planning to return to shoot in New York City, before finishing up sometime in June, 2025.
“We’re so excited that our fans will get to watch season two of The Night Agent in early 2025,” Ryan told Tudum, “and we’ve been hard at work writing season three to deliver more breathless Peter Sutherland ‘Night Action’ adventures to our rabid audience,”
Star Gabriel Basso, who plays heroic FBI agent Sutherland, will be joined in season three by a batch of new cast members. True Blood’s Stephen Moyer, Special Ops: Lioness’ Genesis Rodriguez, House’s Jennifer Morrison, and Life of Pi’s Suraj Sharma will be getting in on the action, as will David Lyons from ER.
Netflix has yet to announce when The Night Agent will return officially. However, it’s safe to assume that it likely won’t be until the first half of 2026, given that the Istanbul leg of production only began on November 24th, 2024. Whatever the case, the streamer will be hoping that season two repeats the runaway success of season one, which hit number one on the Top 10 in 87 countries and is still the seventh most popular English-language show of all time on the platform.
