Karoline Leavitt on Her ‘Atypical’ 32-Year Age Gap with Husband: ‘It Works. You Don’t Have To Get It.’

Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary from New Hampshire, opened up about her personal life with her husband in a recent interview.

Leavitt, 27, is the youngest person to ever hold the post. She is married to Nicholas Riccio, a real estate developer who is 32 years her senior.

In an interview on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Leavitt said she met Riccio during her 2022 congressional campaign. At the time, she ran for a seat in New Hampshire’s First Congressional District but lost to incumbent Democrat Rep. Chris Pappas.

“We met and we were acquainted as friends. And then we fell in love,” she said.

‘Atypical love story’: What Karoline Leavitt said about her husband

Leavitt said she met her husband at a restaurant in New Hampshire, where she was speaking at an event.

When asked by Kelly if she was hesitant to date Riccio because of their age gap, Leavitt said, “yes, of course.”

“I mean it’s a very atypical love story but he’s incredible,” she said. “He is my greatest supporter, he’s my best friend and he’s my rock. He’s built a very successful business himself so now he’s fully supportive of me building my success in my career.”

Leavitt also said Riccio is “the best dad I could ever ask for” to their son, Niko, who was born last July.

“And he is so supportive, especially during a very chaotic period of life,” Leavitt said. “I say, ‘I walked into your life and it’s been a circus ever since,’ but God bless him because he’s fully on board.”

Who is Karoline Leavitt’s husband, Nicholas Riccio?

Leavitt and Riccio married in January after getting engaged in December 2023, according to social media posts.

Riccio, 59, is a real estate developer who has owned property around New England, including in the Hampton Beach area, according to a 2005 Portsmouth Herald article. He owns Riccio Enterprises, LLC.

He graduated from Alvirne High School in Hudson in 1983 before attending Plymouth State University, where he struggled with poverty and was homeless, according to the article.

“When I was 19 or 20, I would call my buddies to go over their houses to watch a game just so I could take a shower,” he told the Portsmouth Herald at the time.

He first got involved in real estate after taking a course in 1990, according to the article.
