“We Will Not Stop Until We Find Him”: Police Chief Vows Massive New Search for Missing Gus as Hope Fades but Determination Grows

The mystery surrounding the disappearance of South Australian man Gus Lamont has deepened — but police say the search is far from over.

In a powerful new statement that reignited public attention on the case, SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens confirmed that authorities are preparing a renewed large-scale search operation, vowing: “We will not give up until we find him.”

It’s been more than a month since Gus vanished without a trace, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions, heartbroken family members, and a community desperate for closure. Despite extensive ground searches, aerial sweeps, and public appeals, there’s been no confirmed sighting — and no clue as to what truly happened.

Now, Stevens says police are planning to deploy new “air assets” and fresh ground teams to re-examine remote and previously inaccessible areas, as part of what he called “a continued, evolving investigation.”

“We’ve never considered this case closed,” Stevens said firmly. “Our teams will be back on the ground — and in the air — in the coming weeks. Every lead, no matter how small, will be followed up.”

The commissioner’s renewed commitment comes amid growing frustration and speculation online, with amateur detectives dissecting every detail of the case and demanding updates from police. For many, the silence has been agonizing.

Gus’s family, who have kept his story in the public eye through social media and emotional community vigils, say they’re “deeply moved” by the recommitment from authorities.

“Every day without Gus feels endless,” his sister said through tears. “But knowing they’re still out there searching gives us hope — and hope is all we have left.”

Investigators have refused to rule anything out — including foul play — though no suspects or major breakthroughs have been announced. Detectives are reportedly analyzing new tips and reviewing GPS and phone data in hopes of uncovering what happened on the day Gus was last seen.

Locals in the area where Gus disappeared have also pledged to assist in the renewed search, with volunteer groups offering drones and four-wheel drives to help scour difficult terrain.

As the operation ramps up again, one thing is clear: police are determined to bring answers — and peace — to a family and community that have endured too much uncertainty for too long.

“People don’t just vanish,” Commissioner Stevens said. “Someone knows something. And until we find out what that is — we won’t stop.”

The search for Gus Lamont continues.
