An elderly man found dead in his home was allegedly in a romantic relationship with the wife of his alleged killer.
Peter Duss, 79, was found dead by police inside his Penhyrn Avenue home in Croydon, south-east of Melbourne, at 2.10am on Monday after reports of a ‘dispute’.
The row reportedly centred around allegations Mr Duss had been having an affair with his alleged killer’s wife.
The 57-year-old man was arrested and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his upper body.
He remained in hospital under police guard on Tuesday, but is expected to be interviewed in the near future.
Mr Duss’s devastated wife was seen leaving the family home on Monday morning dressed in her nightgown.
She is believed to be in the care of family members at an undisclosed location.
‘I am shocked. I am totally and utterly shocked,’ family friend Gillian Bysher told 7News.

‘It doesn’t seem possible that this has happened to somebody I’ve known for many years.’
Detectives are still investigating how long the alleged affair is said to have been going on for or how the early morning incident came to a head.
Neighbour Peter Molloy described the incident as ‘very disturbing’.
‘A lot of us have been living here for many years. Neighbours are very friendly,’ he told 7News.
Detectives were seen on Monday seizing bags of evidence as they pieced together what led to the deadly dispute.
Ms Bysher said Mr Duss’s death had come out of nowhere.
‘It doesn’t seem possible that this has happened to somebody that I’ve known for many years,’ she said.
‘I can’t comprehend how (his wife) is going to cope with this.’
Police remained at the scene throughout most of Monday.

Mr Duss, a German native, had been a long-time resident in the area and volunteered as a German language tutor at the nearby University of the Third Age Croydon campus.
‘Practise your German in a friendly group. Prerequisites: Must be fluent in German and be able to converse and write in German,’ he had requested of students.
