“He’s a Danger to Children!”
Fury as Jon Venables Granted PRIVATE Parole Hearing Despite Public Outcry
The parole hearing for Jon Venables, one of the killers of toddler James Bulger, is set to take place behind closed doors — a decision that has ignited anger and disbelief across the UK.
Requests for a public hearing were rejected by the Parole Board, with Chair Caroline Corby citing legal restrictions on Venables’ identity. But for many, that explanation is not good enough — especially given Venables’ history of reoffending and his reputation as one of the country’s most notorious child killers.

The Shadow of James Bulger’s Murder
In 1993, Venables and his friend Robert Thompson abducted two-year-old James Bulger from a shopping centre in Bootle, Merseyside. Hours later, James was brutally murdered — a crime so horrific it shocked Britain and the world.
Both boys served just eight years before being released with new identities. While Thompson has stayed out of trouble, Venables has repeatedly returned to prison for offences including possession of child abuse images.
Why the Secrecy?
The parole board insists it must respect the lifelong anonymity order protecting Venables’ identity. Officials claim this is necessary for his safety. Yet critics argue that the secrecy only fuels distrust — and shields him from accountability.
Former Met detective Peter Bleksley voiced his frustration: “This is not just about Venables’ rights. What about the rights of the public to know if a dangerous man is being considered for release?”
Kevin O’Sullivan’s Outrage
TalkTV host Kevin O’Sullivan delivered a fiery condemnation on air, declaring Venables a “danger to children” whose release would “put the public in danger.”
“He’s a prolific lawbreaker,” O’Sullivan fumed. “Why are we still protecting him? Every time he’s given freedom, he abuses it. And now we’re not even allowed to know what goes on behind those doors.”
Public Anger Growing
The decision to keep the hearing private has reignited debate about transparency in the justice system. Campaigners insist that cases as high-profile and sensitive as Venables’ should not be shielded from public scrutiny — especially when the safety of children could be at stake.
For James Bulger’s father, Ralph, and countless supporters, the fear is simple: if Jon Venables is freed again, history could repeat itself.
