HER NAME HAS NOW BEEN REVEALED: POLICE CONFIRM IDENTITY OF WOMAN KI-LLED AFTER CAR PLUNGED INTO RESTAURANT — BUT QUESTIONS REMAIN OVER THE TRAGIC CRASH

A woman has been killed when a car crashed into a popular bar on Monday afternoon.

The female patron was outside Martini and Co at Westfield Knox in Wantirna South, Melbourne when a Tesla crashed into the business about 12.45pm, Victoria Police said.

Witnessed tried to help the woman, who is believed to be aged in her 20s, but she died at the scene.

Inspector Ben Gordon said the car struck a steel pylon providing support to an outside awning, “so that’s what’s caused the vehicle to stop”.

A second customer was assessed by paramedics and the driver and a passenger of the vehicle were taken to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

Police have not interviewed the driver at this stage.

“It’s unclear how fast the car was going at the moment,” Gordon said.

In conjunction with centre management here, we’re reviewing CCTV footage.

“We also had numerous members of the public who witnessed the incident and provided accounts to us as well.”

Martini and Co Knox said it is “closed until further notice”.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding,” the bar said in a message to customers on Facebook.

“Please stay safe, and we’ll keep you updated when we can reopen.”

The Major Collision Investigation Unit is leading the probe into Monday’s tragedy.

Gordon said there was “a considerable amount” of witnesses and vehicle traffic and has urged anyone with information or gootage to contact Crime Stoppers.

Scentre Group, which owns Westfield Knox, said “our team are providing full support to police and emergency services”.

Police are also investigating a second accident just a few hundred metres away, with a female pedestrian struck by a bus.

She was been taken to The Alfred with serious injuries.

Gordon said they were “two completely isolated incidents” and there is no ongoing risk to the community.
