Authorities are investigating after a woman who went missing from a Eugene care facility was found dead several days later.

On Sunday, the woman, 67-year-old Carol Clove Petitti, left the facility, located at 1166 East 28th Avenue, around 4:30 p.m., exiting on the University Street side, then travelling south. Police said she had dementia and Parkinsons, as well as immobile without her electric wheelchair.

Multiple agencies extensively searched for Petitti, including the Eugene Police officers and detectives, drones, Oregon State Police K9 units, the Community Engagement Team, and Lane County Search and Rescue.

But on Wednesday, Petitti was found dead by a Eugene Police Department Violent Crimes detective, near East 29th Place and Onyx Streets, in a “secluded area” of dense brush after she left a paved path, the agency said. A map of the area where she was found shows a large residential area and a golf course.

The Lane County Medical Examiner is currently investigating her cause of death. Petitti’s family has been notified and is asking for privacy.
