Authorities in Tennessee have arrested a man in connection with the killing of a young boy over the weekend.

Damarion Morehead, 12, was shot in the head following a brawl at a courtyard in Nashville, Tenn., on Sunday, June 21, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a statement.

Devin Orr, 24, was arrested the following day in connection with the killing.

Orr was involved in a fight “over a female” at the time of the shooting, according to the statement.

Security footage of the incident allegedly shows about six to seven people involved in the fight; police did not confirm their ages.

Investigators allege a group “ganged up” on Orr, “striking him with both punches and kicks to his head,” according to FOX 17 and News Channel 5. Nashville police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request to confirm this claim.

In their statement, police said the footage shows Orr reaching into his waistband and retrieving a firearm, prompting the group to disperse and flee.

At that point, shots rang out and Damarion collapsed, having suffered a gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was pronounced deceased after being transported to a local hospital.

Orr allegedly told investigators during a later interview that he had hid the pistol inside a sewer, where police eventually recovered the firearm, according to the statement.

Damarion’s devastated family has set up a GoFundMe in his honor that they hope will assist them with funeral costs.

The young boy loved football and music, his family said in the fundraiser.

“When you see him on the field, you see a kid that was in his happy place,” Damarion’s coach Kolt Peavey told WSMV. “Mari was a great teammate. Kids loved him. Very joyful, cheerful kid.”

“His smile could light up a room, and his passion for life was contagious,” read part of the GoFundMe. “We cherished every moment with him.”

Orr has been charged with criminal homicide, according to online court records, which did not show his plea information.
