While expanding his solo career in country music, Jelly Roll loved nothing more than collaborating with other stars. Over the last few years, he worked with Lainey Wilson, Haystak, Tech N9ne, Jessie Murphy, Snoop Dogg, Shaboozey, and even Eminem, who he considered a childhood hero of his. Just a sample of the team spirit he possessed, his recent collaboration came thanks to Lil Wayne who asked him to work on the song “Sharks.” Jumping at the chance, it seemed that Jelly Roll got a little help when it came to the hook of the song.
Although not unusual for singers to use a ghostwriter or two when it comes to their songs, it is almost unheard of that the writer was an 8-year-old kid. But when it came to “Sharks”, the country singer turned to his son Noah.
Thanks to Jelly Roll’s wife, Bunnie Xo, a video appeared on her TikTok showing herself and Noah listening to the song. The caption read, “When Noah was his daddy’s ghostwriter for this hook on The Carter 6.”
Jelly Roll Could Be Raising The Next Great Songwriter
Featured on Lil Wayne’s new album The Carter VI, “Sharks” included the hook, “Snakes ain’t always in the grass / Sharks ain’t always in the water / Thieves ain’t always in the night / God ain’t always at the altar.” While Noah danced to the lyrics, Bunnie Xo noted he helped write them.
Currently touring the country with Post Malone on the Big A** Stadium Tour, Jelly Roll gained fame not just for her big heart but for songs like “Save Me”, “Son of a Sinner”, and “I’m Not Okay.” Quickly proving himself a top name in the genre, it seemed that his passion, creativity, and talent extended beyond just himself.
As for what fans had to say about the new songwriter, comments read, “That’s actually incredibly impressive! Way to go.” The praise continued to stack up. “Talent like his father. Great job little man. Bunnie, you are truly amazing and will make a fantastic mother. Let me rephrase that: you are a fantastic mother.”
With Jelly Roll leaving his mark in country music, his son Noah could have a promising career of his own in the future.
