Clarkson spoke about the topic on her NBC talk show one day before launching into a new era of music with the single “Where Have You Been”
Even on a desert island, Kelly Clarkson wants to have a good time.
During a game of “Playing Dice With God” with Tina Fey and Will Forte on the May 1 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the Grammy winner revealed which of her high-profile colleagues she’d choose to get stranded on an island with — and it’s a fellow former American Idol alum.
“If you had to be stranded on an island with one former famous coworker, who would you choose and why?” asked an offscreen voice that sounds eerily similar to Morgan Freeman portraying the role of God.

Clarkson, 43, responded, “I’m gonna say — she seems like a fun hang for a while, so I’m gonna say J-Hud. I’m gonna say Jennifer Hudson.”
The “Since U Been Gone” singer and the EGOT holder, 43, both competed on American Idol, with Clarkson winning season 1 and Hudson placing seventh on season 3. However, they actually crossed paths professionally while coaching on season 15 of The Voice.
In a YouTube compilation video from their time on the NBC singing competition series, both stars spoke about their dynamic as fellow coaches. “We bring a lot of energy that we are trying to balance because one of us is more than enough. You can’t imagine two,” said Hudson.

Clarkson added, “I think Jennifer and I are kind of an interesting dynamic because we’ve literally been the artists, and we’re really fans of each other too.”
“We kind of team up together because we love each other,” explained Hudson at the time.
This week, Clarkson also launched into a new era of music with her latest single, “Where Have You Been,” out now. The power ballad marks her first release as an independent artist through her own label, High Road Records.
In a recent SiriusXM interview, she opened up about the track’s inspiration: “I wrote this song. This is — I’ve rarely done something like this, but I was watching Only Murders in the Building. It’s Martin Short’s face. He says to Meryl Streep’s character in the show, ‘Where have you been?'”
“He’s like, he’s in awe and I was like, ‘Has there been a, has anyone written a song?’ ‘Cause the song is happy,” added Clarkson. “’Cause it’s like you found something that you thought was almost basically a unicorn and did not exist.”
