Romance is on the cards in the upcoming fourth series of ITV’s beloved crime drama.

When it comes to reliable crime dramas, ITV’s Professor T is up there with the best of them. After three too-good-to-miss series featuring the OCD-suffering genius criminologist Professor Jasper Tempest (Ben Miller), he’s back for a surprisingly personal fourth instalment – it’s set to be the best series yet.
Ben Miller has said he “can’t wait for audiences to see the treats we’ve got in store for them in series 4, when the Professor tackles his most baffling case yet: romance” – and from the sounds of it, that’s not the half of what’s in store for him. What is Professor T about?

His crime-solving skills mean he often assists the police in solving crimes and over the course of three series, we’ve seen him solve a number of challenging cases. He’s also spent time in prison for a crime he didn’t commit!
What will happen in Professor T series 4?
Series 4 is set six months after the shocking series 3 finale. We’d advise you to skip past the next bit if you’re yet to watch series 3 (there’s a spoiler), but essentially, it involved the death of DS Lisa Donckers (Emma Naomi), a police detective but also a former student of Professor T. In series 4, the team must overcome their grief to tackle a dangerous new crime wave that’s making its way through town.

Aside from solving crime, Professor T has a new musical pursuit and he’s more invested in his lectures than ever. As for his mother, Adelaide, there’s romance on the cards, and the same goes for Professor T’s therapist, Helena Goldbery (Juliet Stevenson), for whom the lines between professional life and personal life become blurred.
Meanwhile, DI Maiya Goswami (Sunetra Sarker) takes charge of the police force with the help of her right-hand man DS Dan Winters (Barney White). With so much personal and professional drama in store, we’ve no doubt it’s going to be another brilliant series!
Ben Miller has said he’s delighted that the show has been such a hit with audiences. “There’s nothing out there quite like Professor T, with its unique mix of complex crimes and captivating characters, all set against the beautiful backdrop of Cambridge; the central enigma being the Professor himself… a mystery I hope to investigate for many seasons to come!” he says.
