One ITV quiz show contestant has made history after scooping the biggest jackpot prize ever on Jeopardy!. Hosted by Sir Stephen Fry, the show sees players test their general knowledge – but they’re only allowed to answer in the form of a question.

It was hotel receptionist Ben Jones who scooped the massive prize, becoming a 10-day reigning champion as he continued his streak against fellow competitors Jonathan and Rosemary. His final question was: “Matthew Broderick starred in the title role of the 1980s comedy film ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’, directed by this man.”

The 23-year-old correctly answered: “Who is John Hughes?” – and scooped an incredible £64,530, the biggest amount ever given away on the show. It was also one of the biggest jackpot wins of any ITV daytime quiz.

Stephen said at the end of the show: “We say goodbye to you because it is the end of the series. That’s an amazing thought. It’s been a wonderful one, we’ve had two tremendous champions, but none greater than this young man who will become a hero of the valleys I’ve no doubt.”

He also appeared as one of the youngest contestants ever on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire back in 2020, when he was just 19. He scooped £8,000, but lost out on a film question, which was: “’This is Me’ was a 2018 UK Top 10 single from which recent film?”

The answer was The Greatest Showman – but Ben walked away without risking his cash on a guess.
