📰 Blumhouse, Kidman & Curtis Unite for Ambitious ‘Kay Scarpetta’ Series as Prime Video Assembles All-Star Team

Prime Video is bringing Patricia Cornwell’s iconic forensic thriller heroine Kay Scarpetta to television at last, and the streaming giant has assembled a powerhouse roster of Hollywood talent to do it. The long-gestating adaptation—led by Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, and the production muscle of Blumhouse Television—is shaping up to be one of the most high-profile book-to-series projects of the year.
Blumhouse Television, which partnered with Curtis to secure the rights to Cornwell’s global bestselling novels in 2021, is producing the series alongside Amazon MGM Studios, Kidman’s Blossom Films, and Curtis’s Comet Pictures. In a move that immediately captured industry attention, celebrated writer-producer Liz Sarnoff—whose credits include Barry, Lost, and Deadwood—will adapt the novels and serve as showrunner. Director David Gordon Green, who worked closely with Curtis on the recent Halloween trilogy, is set to helm the opening two episodes, giving the series an immediate cinematic pedigree.
For Curtis, the project marks the realization of a long-held ambition.
“I have wanted to bring Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta to a screen, with my company, Comet Pictures, for a while,” she said in a statement. “I’m particularly excited that Nicole Kidman will finally bring her to life. I’m also looking forward to playing Nicole’s sister as we tell the story with Liz Sarnoff’s expert care, leadership, skill, and talent, and I am excited to work again with David as our director.”
Curtis added a characteristically playful warning to fans of the novels: “Blumhouse, Blossom, and Prime Video are the perfect partners to bring Scarpetta to you, and a warning……..there WILL be blood.”

The enthusiasm is matched at Amazon MGM Studios. Vernon Sanders, the company’s head of television, praised both Cornwell’s legacy and the talent assembled to adapt it.
“Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta has enraptured fans for decades and I am honored that Prime Video is entrusted to bring the series to screen for our global customers,” Sanders said. “The most exemplary group has been assembled for the series with Liz Sarnoff at the helm with an extraordinary vision; the immensely talented Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, and the fantastic cast; and the top-notch team at Blumhouse.”
