Loose Women star Coleen Nolan has laid bare the agony of watching her eldest son battle drug addiction, revealing in a tearful interview the savage advice she received: “KICK HIM OUT OF THE HOUSE.” The 60-year-old singer and presenter described years of secret crying, self-blame, and a period where “everything fell apart” as Shane Nolan hit rock bottom.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on December 12, Coleen opened up further about the family’s ordeal, which first came to light publicly over the summer when she and son Shane, 37, discussed it in a raw YouTube video. “I felt like a terrible mother,” she admitted, explaining how she blamed herself for his struggles. “I thought it was my fault. I’d done things wrong. I couldn’t help him.”

The turning point came when well-meaning people urged tough love: “You’re going to have to kick him out,” they told her. Coleen revealed this advice weighed heavily during Shane’s darkest days, as his addiction spiraled, leading to debt, a ruined marriage, and a frightening incident where he passed out and split his head open, requiring staples.

“That was my breaking point,” Coleen recalled in the earlier YouTube sit-down with Shane. “I thought if this doesn’t wake him up, he is going to die.” Shane entered rehab shortly after, crediting his recovery to hitting rock bottom and later support from his new partner, Kimberly Sallis.

Shane, a singer and musician who shares Coleen’s ex-husband Shane Richie as father, has been candid about how addiction “f***ed up” his marriage to former Miss Great Britain Maddie Wahdan. The couple split in 2023 amid reports of infidelity, just a year after their wedding. Coleen has spoken of the pain, noting echoes of her own past experiences with betrayal.

Now sober and happier, Shane welcomed a son, Cruz-Carter, with Kimberly in November 2025 – Coleen’s fourth grandchild. Reflecting on the change, Coleen said the family has “relaxed” and she no longer “dreads” his visits; he’s simply “nicer to be around.”

Coleen emphasized that Shane chose to go public during Men’s Mental Health Month, lifting a “whole weight” off his shoulders. For her, speaking out helped too: “As an addict, the only person that could have helped him was himself, which he did.”

The Nolan family has long been in the spotlight, with Coleen rising to fame as part of The Nolans girl group before becoming a Loose Women staple since 2000. She’s navigated two divorces, raising Shane, brother Jake (from the same marriage), and daughter Ciara from her second union.

This latest revelation underscores the hidden struggles behind celebrity smiles. Coleen hopes sharing will destigmatize addiction, encouraging others to seek help. As she promotes her farm life and upcoming projects, her message is clear: recovery is possible, but the journey can shatter even the strongest families.

In a world quick to judge, Coleen’s vulnerability reminds us of the human cost of addiction – and the power of resilience.
