Brendan Gleeson’s Retired Cop Gets SI.CKENING Emails From D.ead Ice-Cream Kil.ler: “I’M INSIDE YOUR HOUSE WHILE YOU SLEEP!”

MR. MERCEDES SEASON 3: BRENDAN GLEESON’S RETIRED DETECTIVE IS BACK FROM HELL IN THE MOST TWISTED, UNHINGED CHAPTER YET – AND FANS ARE ALREADY SCREAMING

“He’s dead… but I can still hear him laughing inside my skull.” The blood-soaked return of Stephen King’s darkest TV masterpiece hits harder than ever

Staffel 3 von Mr. Mercedes

Los Angeles / New York – 10 September 2019 – The nightmare isn’t over. In fact, it’s only just begun.

Two years after the Mercedes Killer’s reign of terror supposedly ended in a courtroom bloodbath, HBO’s Audience Network detonated the long-awaited third season of Mr. Mercedes – and early reactions are pure, unfiltered panic.

Brendan Gleeson reprises his career-best role as retired detective Bill Hodges, a broken, boozy, heart-attack-survivor who thought the monster was finally caged. Wrong. Even with Brady Hartsfield (the genuinely terrifying Harry Treadaway) reduced to a vegetable in Season 1 and then dramatically executed on-screen in Season 2, his poison keeps spreading like digital black mould.

Season 3 explodes open with the shocking fallout from that courtroom assassination: Lou Linklatter (Breeda Wool in a gut-wrenching performance), the traumatised survivor who put three bullets into Brady’s head in front of the world, now faces murder charges herself. While the city argues whether she’s a hero or a vigilante, Hodges is drowning in guilt, pills and whiskey – until a new atrocity drags him back into the abyss.

Enter the murder of legendary author John Rothstein (guest star Bruce Dern, chewing scenery like raw meat). Found bludgeoned in his study, Rothstein’s safe has been cracked open and his priceless unpublished manuscripts – rumoured to be worth millions – have vanished into the night.

Hodges, alongside his rag-tag Finders Keepers agency – genius neurodivergent investigator Holly Gibney (Justine Lupe, stealing every scene) and tech-whizz Jerome Robinson (Jharrel Jerome) – is hired to recover the stolen novels. What starts as a high-stakes literary theft spirals into something far more deranged when they realise the killer is a superfan gone full psycho: a reclusive, brilliant, and utterly unhinged young man (played by a never-before-seen-this-feral guest star) who believes Rothstein’s final book contains a secret that will “wake the world up”.

Early reviewers who’ve seen the first four episodes are calling it “Misery on bath salts”, “Succession for sociopaths”, and “the most disturbing King adaptation since Gerald’s Game”.

One critic wrote: “Season 3 makes the first two look like a warm-up. The new villain doesn’t just want to kill – he wants to possess souls. There’s a scene in episode three involving a stolen manuscript page and a jar of teeth that made me physically gag.”

The show dives deeper into the psychological wreckage Brady left behind. Hodges is haunted by hallucinations (or are they?) of the smirking, dead killer whispering in his ear. Holly’s OCD spirals into dangerous new territory. Jerome faces racism and moral compromise. And Lou’s trial becomes a media circus that threatens to tear the city apart.

Director Jack Bender (Lost, The Last of Us) and showrunner David E. Kelley crank the paranoia to eleven: burner phones left in libraries, manuscripts mailed in blood-stained envelopes, live-streamed confessions at 3 a.m., and a chilling motif of ice-cream truck music echoing through empty suburbs long after Brady’s van was crushed.

Mr. Mercedes Staffel 3 Episodenguide: Alle Folgen im Überblick!

Stand-out moments already leaking online (with heavy spoiler warnings):

Gleeson’s shattering 8-minute monologue in episode 2 about suicidal ideation that reportedly left the crew in tears
A rain-soaked midnight chase through an abandoned shopping mall that critics call “the tensest sequence in King TV history”
The final 20 seconds of episode 4 – described only as “you will scream at your television”

The 10-episode season also welcomes heavy-hitting guests: Kate Mulgrew as a ruthless defence attorney, Brett Gelman as Rothstein’s sleazy former agent, and Natalie Paul as a dogged prosecutor who has her own history with Hodges.

Harry Treadaway returns in nightmare flashbacks and possible supernatural cameos that toy with the audience’s sanity – because in King’s world, death is never keeps the really bad ones quiet.

Mr. Mercedes Season 3 is streaming now exclusively on Audience Network (DirecTV) in the US, with international rollout on StarzPlay, Sky Atlantic and HBO Europe through late 2019 and 2020.

Viewer discretion is very much advised. As one shell-shocked early watcher posted last night: “I thought Brady was the scariest thing Stephen King ever created. I was wrong. Season 3 just introduced something worse… and it’s wearing a human face.”

Welcome back to the nightmare. You never really left.
