It’s never easy when a beloved series comes to an end, and there’s always a fear that decisions in the writing room mean that a show doesn’t go out the way that fans were hoping.
But when Netflix’s Italian-language period drama The Law According to Lidia Poet aired its final season last month, fans were quick to praise how the six-part drama came to an end.
Over three seasons, the show has told the story of Lidia Poet, the first female Italian lawyer in the country’s history. An initial premise for the series read: “In 1883, Lidia Poët is the first and only female lawyer in Italy, but an appellate court in Turin rules that practicing law is not a woman’s job, disbarring her. Lidia finds a job at her brother’s law firm while preparing her appeal to overturn the court’s decision.”
The final season focuses on Lidia’s appeal reaching the court, but the lawwoman is caught in her own drama, when her best friend, Grazia, is arrested for murdering her abusive husband. However, this isn’t her only drama, as former lover Jacopo Barberis makes his return to Turin, alongside his new love interest.

How did fans react to the ending?
Although fans enjoyed the “satisfying ending” of the show, many still hoped that it could return for a fourth season. One said: “Binging it and sad that this is the final season,” to which a second added: “I can’t believe it’s the last one! That show was so good! Really glad we had three seasons though.”
A third posted: “I’ve just finished it and enjoyed it immensely. It’s one of the very few programmes I’ve ever watched twice and loved just as much the second time. Everything about it held my attention, the characters, the storylines, the performances, even the music. And Lidia’s clothes deserve a series of their own!”

Fans still hoped that the show could return
A fourth added: “I loved this series and am so sad that Season 3 is the final season! The clothes she wears (and really everyone) are absolutely stunning. Bravo to all involved in this fantastic series. So well done, I cannot get enough!”
However, another added: “Overall I really liked this show, I’m sad it ended but they wrapped it up nicely that another season would have been kind of pointless. Now it’s time to let it sit and watch again in a couple of months.”

Will you be watching the final season?
However, there was a more mixed review in Digital Mafia Talkies, where Ruchika Bhat commented: “Personally, I found Season 3 tonally the most wavering. It doesn’t necessarily feel like a show about the advocate Lidia Poet anymore, it’s just about the person Lidia Poet.”
Who stars in The Law According to Lidia Poet?
