A mother has allegedly killed her six-day-old infant, toddler and husband before taking her own life in a shocking suspected murder-suicide.

The family of four were discovered dead, all with gunshot wounds inside their LA home by Los Angeles Police Department officers.

Authorities have since identified them as Marine Basmajian, 30, her husband Khajag Basmajian, 31, and their two children Alec and newborn daughter Ella, The Sun reports.

Marine died from a self-inflicted wound to the head, according to the medical examiner, who added that Khajag and the two small children had also died from similar injuries.

Further details from the heartbreaking ordeal have not been released by the authorities.

A preliminary investigation has revealed evidence pointing to an alleged murder-suicide.

It remains unknown what led to the catastrophic incident.

Emergency services rushed to the property after reports of a disturbance on May 27.

The police investigation into remains ongoing.

Next-door neighbour Florence Narreras said she had not noticed anything out of the ordinary on the evening of the incident, telling ABC7 that the last time she had seen the family was before baby Ella was born.

Other neighbours spoke to local media outlets following the shooting, describing the family as quiet and reserved, the San Fernando Valley Sun reported.

Andrea Morales – who lives just two houses away from the Basmajian home – said she had never expected that “anything like this could ever happen”.

“It’s so depressing, it’s so devastating for everyone.” Karen Banuelos told the Los Angeles Times.

“To get possessed to do that? It’s just, there’s no words,” she added.

She also remembered hearing a “commotion”.

Ms Banuelos recalled seeing the cops arrive to the family home from her window, and later witnessed a family member running out the house in tears.

She said the neighbourhood community only found out what had happened after the children’s grandfather spoke to one of the neighbours.

An anonymous neighbour added that they had never seen the family argue.

They said they had seen Khajag take the rubbish out at around 7pm – about an hour prior to the alleged incident.

Paula Smith – another local resident – said she had heard helicopters but had no idea what was happening.

“[We woke up] this morning and to hear about this and these kids, it’s really heartbreaking,” she said.

“So go home and love the people you love.

“If someone is hurting, please reach out. Don’t be ashamed.”

A spokesperson for the Basmajian family said they had been heartbroken by the deaths.

“Our family is devastated by the tragic loss of Khajag Basmajian, his wife Marine, their son Alec and their newborn daughter Ella, just six days old,” they said.

“In a single moment, we lost an entire young family who were deeply loved by everyone who knew them.

“Khajag was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, brother and friend. To know him is to love him.”

They continued, saying that Khajag had a “positive outlook on life” and a “beaming smile”.

“He was truly a friend you could count on,” the spokesperson said.

“Alec brought joy and laughter wherever he went. With his bright smile and cheerful eyes, taking after his father, he loved his toy vehicles and getting a taste for life one bite at a time (ice cream was his favourite),” they added.

They continued, saying that “Alec couldn’t wait to meet his baby sister Ella, who only lived to see the world Earthside for six days”.

“As we face the unimaginable task of honouring and laying four beloved family members to rest, we are asking for support to help cover funeral, memorial and other unexpected expenses during this difficult time,” they said.

“Our goal is to help support our family so they can focus on healing, remembering their lives, and preserving their legacy.

“Every donation, prayer, and share is deeply appreciated. Thank you for helping us honour the memory of Khajag, Marine, Alec, and Ella.”

Relatives have since launched a GoFundMe campaign, raising money to cover funeral expenses.
